In search for turbo heat shield...

My tt firebird is almost complete, except one minor tight fit. The upper radiator hose comes awfully close to touching the exhaust side of the turbine housing. I am wondering if there is anything I could buy to wrap the turbo in that would protect my radiator hose? Something somewhat thin and formable, it doesn't even necessarily have to be for a turbo application, it just has to withstand the temp of the exhaust side of the turbo. The radiator hose comes close to touching the inner corner of the exhaust section of the turbo, the radiator hose travels almost dead center between the intake and exhaust sides of the housing.

My question is, could I use exhaust header wrap just on that section of the radiator hose? Closeness to the hose is about 1/8". I'm really looking for an easy solution here that hopefully isn't too expensive.

Thanks

pj

I’d be really surprised if any kind of wrap worked well in that application. Have you considered cutting your hose an putting a piece of hard tubing in to replace that section?

I was thinking along those lines, what type of hard tubing should I use?

Also, i figured that if the exhaust is wrapped with the tape, that the exhaust gets hotter then the turbo does coming right out of the motor correct? Again, this turbo is about a 2 feet away from the motor. Just a thought.

Exhaust pipe in the appropriate diameter is fine

This is what I am using on my TT IROC. I bought it out of a comic book (Summit I believe). It wasn't cheap, but it is specifically designed for the task. Might be worth-while to help keep additional heat out of the engine bay.
