Ha ha. That's boost! Seriously, though, read about a 5.0 Mustang with a single turbo, and manual trans, doing 8 sec quarters. So I would think a turbo 305 would be able to do the same--with mods of course.

We likes the superchargers though...

a 305 doesnt have nearly quite the potential as a 302. the aftermarket support for 5.0 fords is HUGE, and the best years come with forged internals stock. Id be willing to say that 8 sec mustang is not a 302, maybe a 351, has everything aftermarket/custom and costs a LOT.

Any clue what the hell would put out enough exhaust energy to spin that motha?

Maybe this?

How do they machine the crank in that big diesel??? I guess it doesn't need to be balanced perfectly since it only turns 102RPM!

If you say the fuel that thing runs on you wouldnt be worried about a balanced crank. Its more of a sludge than it is a liquid.

what kind of an exhaust sound would that make? i would think it would blow someones head off from a mile away.

The engine speed is so low it makes very little exhaust noise.

the horse power to torque ratio seems alittle far fetched. I mean its only 100,000 horses, and it has over 1.5 million cubic inches. lol

Horsepower is made with engine speed. Considering hp and torque are equal at 5225 rpms, the two numbers wont be close to each other because the engine spins so slowly.

im not trying to nitpick and be a pain in the ***... but isnt horsepower and torque equal at 5252rpm not 5225, and isnt that because horsepower is a is a mathematical derivative of torque...

The real question is how fast do those turbos spin at? I know a small power plant turbine/generator similar in size spins 3600 rpm and a safe decceleration rate to stop takes ~half a day.

the turbochargers on my locomotives are around 6 foot diameter and are so huge that they are hybrids meaning when engine RPM's are low enough they work like centrifugal superchargers until there is enough exhaust gas. the "drive shafts" for them uncouple at just the right speed. The redline for these motors is around 900 rpm and they have about 40,000 + cid making around 6000 horsepower and 200,000 ft lbs tq

900 rpm...... there would be some quick shifting at the 1/4 :lala:

just switch to all electrical generation and drivetrain, like a hibrid car. actually the locomotive does a kind of shift called transition where it switches from parralell or series at around 18 to 24 mph (depending on manufacturer).
