I MUST re-clock my driver side turbo or things are not gonna work out too good. See picture: All the bolts are loose but the sucker still won't budge. I need to reclock the exhaust housing so that the oil lines are orientated properly. Any ideas? BTW, the rusted crappy turbo in the picture is my "spare" turbo I use for mockups, the real turbo is sitting in diesel fuel while I try to get the housing loose.

btw, YES i know the msd box is getting relocated

Remove bolts completely -

spray liberally with PB Blaster all around the rim of the backing plate.

Allow to soak approx 15 minutes.

Go back, and tap it GENTLY with a rubber mallet. Should pop right off - there's a gasket between the backing plate and the compressor housing itself, that generally gets stuck from the head of the turbo.

I'd suggest being VERY careful with it, and while you have the compressor housing off, good time to replace that gasket, and check for endplay/side play in the shaft.

I believe he is talking about the turbine housing (t/h), no tthe compressor.

I have run into this exact problem several times in working with JY turbos. The PB Blaster is good stuff, but soaking for two days in it did nothing for me. You probably already noticed that you cannot get all the bolts completely out of the housing (the water and oil ports are in the way)- just loosen them all as far as you can, then they can be removed once you get the t/h loose. The oxy/acetylene torch is the only tool that has worked for me. Put the turbo in a vice (I usually clamp on the WG housing because the round part of the T/H can be hard to clamp to- obviously, do not clamp to the aluminum compressor side). Apply heat to the turbine houdsing near the flange, and slowly work around the turbo. The heat will expand the t/h, allowing you to work the bearing section loose. Take your time- it will come off this way, but you can't rush it. Too much heat can melt the housing. Once you have it hot,it may help to insert a large screw driver into the oil drian or a coolant port (not the oil inlet) to give you some leverage to twist the bearing section in the turbine housing. Once you have it loose, I would completely seperate the t/h so you can clean it up and reassemble with high temp anti-seize so that it will be easier to disassemble should you need to do it again.

Once you have the bearing section clocked in the T/H, the compressor side can be clocked to just where you need it (that's the easy side).

Hope that helps.

thanx for the tip, I'll try that today. My turbo buildup is at a standstill until I get that sucker rotated, because I'm ready to route my oil lines.

Got it off!! I was about to give up after torching it for a long time, then I decided to throw it in the oven for about 20 minutes at 350 degrees....that did the trick.

I was going to suggest heat and PB and I scrolled down to see you had found success. Good luck with the project!

Awesome! Sorry I didn't understand what you were going for. Saw the compressor side, and thought that was what you wanted to move.
