ProCharger

I'm thinking about getting a pro charger soon, I'm going to run it on a pretty much stock TPI 350(been ported upper lower and runners)6lb of boost until i slap a stroker motor in it.

Will it work on a MAF step up?
Will i need bigger injectors then stock or will they work till i stroke it?
Chip i can mod myself.
Compression test?

Also i don't see any problems running 6lbs of boost it shouldn't blow any thing up.


These are pretty much the most major things needed right? Until i get a real motor in it then i will invest in parts more.

Yes, it will work with MAF. The system is designed to use your stock injectors, but putting in larger injectors and ditching the FMU is the way most people end up going.

thanks man so doing the few thing above will work then. Once i get a 383 i'll get all the other goodies too. but for now i was gonna slap a 6lb pully system on my pretty much stock car. So what does FMU stand for Fuel metering unit?

What he said is pretty much on the money. Only difference is I use the FMU. Works just fine for me and does what it's supposed to do. I ran mine with stock injectors for a while and had no problems. 6psi is no seat for stock TPI.

ColdGTA just notice you have a ProCharger. Whats that thing run 1/4 mile? how much boost you got? Sound pretty kick a$$? What kinda 1/4 mile you think i'll run on a pro charger 6lb pretty stock motor?

Im glad someone asked these questions. Thinking about doing the same thing myself. One question that did not get asked is "does the stock fuel pump need to be upgraded"?

The vortec chargers list a upgraded pump in there systems.

What do you mean bye "fuel managment unit"? Is this something that comes with the kit?

Start of next year, its getting a griffin radiator. Then I will see about getting the money together for a procharger.

Procharger recommends you change your plugs, fuel filter, and oil prior to the install. FMU comes with the kit. I ran the FMU with no problems until I jacked up the boost. Your injectors and stock pump should be fine with low boost levels.

Thanks...The kit shows boost of 9.12 lb. To get lower boost, I'm guessing, you go with a larger pully on the charger? (making the charger spin slower).

Thats some impressive rear wheel power your putting out.

I am a little worried about what will happen to my 9 bolt rear end, however. I'm thinking a rear end girdle might be in order as well.

So guestamating what do you think my pretty stock vette would run a 1/4 mile. It's a little more beefy then a say stock camaro. Like dual exhaust and i think little bigger injectors. I mean i've ported my stock pleum, runners, and base. 180 therm, AFPR, no mufflers, motor in very good condtion for the most part. Auto trans 2.59 rear. I have the abilty to custom chip it too. Doesn't have to be prefect just wondering what your thoughts are on what it might run. I'm guess 12.5 nothing under 12. I'd say my car runs about a very low 13 the way it is. No intercooler to with the blower.

BTW the pully comes stock with 9lb boost? Thats probaby still not going to hurt the stock TPI right?

Another thing I did a search on the FMU but didn't have much luck. can you give me a better Idea on what it is.

I figured it came with differant pullies to adjust the boost. However, that is an assumption.

When I bought my kit it came with an fmu, an inline fuel pump, intercooler,and a surge valve. The only pulley it came with was the one that is on it(9lb). However you can buy more if you want to change your boost levels. I took it down to the track after installing this and went from a 14.7 to a 13.9 with very close to the same 60 foots(only made one run with the car in drive). But it still seemed that the car wasn't running right so I had a friend hook up a wide band and found out that it was running very lean, and was pulling alot of timing(this was with the fmu screwed all the way in), so my experience has been that even on a basically stock motor you would benefit from bigger injectors, and definately have the prom burned.

Not sure on the 1/4. Haven't been to the track with it. I would estimate hi 12's. I have SLP 1 3/4 headers along with aftermarket cat and exhaust. Also I run the SVO 24 lb injectors. From about 2500 rpm to 5300rpm it pulls like a monster. I shut down C-5 vettes on a regular basis. That's how I come up with the hi 12ish number. Haven't had the privilage of playing with a ZO6 or C6. In my current form I think they could run me. Hard to beat that power to weight ratio,but hey mine is a 16 yearold stocker. Plus my GTA is pretty darn heavy. My boost depends on how long my belt stays tight as ALL Procharger owners can attest to. I have never been able to get more than 7 psi. Most times when the belt is worn is about 5-6 psi. That will change this winter. Gonna make some adjustments to keep the belts tight without killing the bearings in the blower.

As far as the stock fuel pump it will work,but I would really advise getting a higher flow unit. One, your pump is probably old and may not work at peak performance anymore along with who knows how much time is on it. Second ..boost is pretty addictive and before you know it you will want more fuel to feed the bigger injectors and help out the FMU pump with the even more power you will want to create. I would rather have too much fuel than not enough. New pump is a small price to pay. Stock injectors will work with low boost, but I noticed that the 24's I added had a noticable difference(more pull) at the top of the rpm scale. By the way ATI lies. With all of the hardware they send you will you will not see 9psi with the 9psi kit. I don't know of anyone who has hit that number with a bone stock set up. The belt system needs to be improved. Never the less though it's a blast. My car looks like an innocent mid 80's run of the mill GTA. Till I put the hammer down.

My ProCharger hit 9psi right out of the box on a bone stock engine. You can order the kit for any boost level, they just advertise 9psi, because that's about the extent of what a stock L98 can handle. If you want less, all you have to do is ask. Additionally, if you have any mods that would make your engine flow more efficiently, they need to know about them so they can spec the pulley size appropriately.

You are running a D1SC though. Differen't animal. I was refering to P1SC.

The FMU senses boost and increase fuel (to go along with added air) for the engine...

Crude but works. The peopel I have talked to got better results from bigger injectors and reprograming the ECU chip and then not needing the FMU.... normally the kit comes with 9lbs, but that might leave some cars running lean, as posted earlier...

Your stock injectors & FMU can only do so much...

I'm running a D1SC now that I have forged pistons and 9:1 compression. I used to run a P1SC on a bone stock engine.

5 years and still going strong running my D1sc (@10lbs boost) on a stock L98...the best time i was able to pull was 13.04 on street tires with the stock ECM, FMU and 24lb injectors... now i have a Accel gen VII DFI with 42Lb injectors and BFG drag radials, my best time now is a 12.62 with a very cautious tune. (10.8 AFR)

Dont want to hijack the thread so heres a link to every mod I have on the car.
BTW those numbers are on 15psi and I ran out of pump at 4500rpms. It should have more in it.
