best cam for my nitrous combo
I alreadry posted this in the general engine tech but no one has helped me out and i figured it was pretty much a nitrous question anyway.
I am going to upgrade my cam because i am going to run nitrous next season and was debating between three cams and was wondering if anyone could help me out?
First of i am running a 355sbc with stock rods w/ arp bolts, stock crank, forged pistons, 10:1 compression, dart iron eagle 215cc heads, 1.6 aluminum rr's, holley stealthram, 58mm Holley tb, 42lb injectors, gs340 fuelpump, full msd ignition, accel dfi, built 700r4 w/3500 stall probably going to switch to a th350 or 400 soon. strange 9" w/4.11's and 28x11.50 slicks, the car has also been lightened quite a bit too.
I just added a nitrous kit and am planning on using a 150 shot but my current cam is a little small for me and want to switch to a dual pattern. The cam i have now http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...5&autoview=sku
These are the three cams that i am choosing between( unless someone has any other suggestions)
comp cams nitrous cam http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...5&autoview=sku
lunati cam http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...5&autoview=sku
lunati voodoo cam http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...5&autoview=sku
My car is basically a weekend show car that i race regularly so i am not too concerned with it being extremely streetable, but i do want it to preform well n/a also.
Thanks in advance, Tim

No one has any opinions? You guys will determine which cam i go with. I was leaning towards the comp cams nitrous cam but ive heard that the new voodoo cam really puts down some good numbers.

what's your static compression?
A 150 shot isn't a whole lot when your talking about n2o cams. Most people don't even bother unless they're spraying over 200. I chose a cc306 230/244 and .510/.540 but use 1.6 rockers for .544/.576 on a 112lsa. Seems to do ok for n/a power (see sig) considering my static compression is low and I'm using cold plugs and excessive ring gap. For your combo neither of those cams had a lage "split" that you normally see w/ a n2o cam. Mine has 14* difference between the intake and exhaust, but I'm jetted for a 300 shot. I'd shoot for 232-240 on the intake and something around 242-258 on the exhaust depending on how wild you want to go. Keep in mind overlap and dynamic compression, these must be addressed when your tuning it for the new cam.
Good luck, and pill it till ya kill it.
EDIT: Getting the exhaust out is the biggest issure for a nitrous motor. Port the exhaust runners, and pick a cam w/ long exhaust duration and much more lift. Obviously check piston to valve clearance. Keep .080 as a minimum. Some people even use .100 as a 'go' 'no go' gauge.

i believe my static compression should be right around 10.3 : 1. I am just running a 150 shot now but i will probably spray either a second stage or a 250 shot so im looking for a cam for the long run. Thanks for the suggestion on the cam and i think that is exactly what i am looking for. I just cant seem to find it in a hydraulic flat tappet cam.
