What's better...11:1 CR w/ timing retard or 10:1 CR w/ 0 timing??

Hey guys. My buddy want to sell me these incredible Bowtie heads that have had $900 worth of porting done to them for $1100!! Unfortunately, they're 56cc...I don't want to replace the pistons to keep the compression ratio below 10.5:1, so he just suggested that I get an ignition sysetm w/ timing retard box (MSD Digital 6) This seems cool because I can run without worries on 93 octane, but when I fill up with race gas at the track I can bump up the timing and see the full potential.

But, here's the question. Does a 11:1 CR engine w/ timing retard run slower than a 10:1 CR engine w/ 0 timing?

EDIT: not really sure why I posted this here, I'm going to repost in general tech...

Go with the higher compression and get a J&S safeguard. Great piece of equipment for any engine with high cylinder pressure
