bang for the buck

ok, first I'll tell you that Im in high school so I am on a really tight budget. you know, girls, friends, and the weekly tank of gas. anyway, I've got about $600 to put into my car and I wanted to know what would be a good place to start. I've got a '92 RS with an LT1 with Heddman Headers, a TPIS throttle-body airfoil, and an MSD-6AL igntion system. right now I think I'm running high 13's to a 14 1/4 mile, I would like to be near the 12's or alteast break a 13 sec. run. with that said, I want something that will not affect my gas mileage or driveability but something that will give me a healthy boost in power. thanks for any suggestions

Can you say NITROUS????

With $600, you can buy a kit and still have some money left to fill the bottle...

later,

The nitrous would be your best bet! I would say Nitrous is the best HP for the money. But make sure you have an aftermarket fule pump I.E. Holley 255ltr. That's what I have, never run lean on the sqweeeeeeez. And also replace your gas filter...And you'll be in the 12's no problem. I would say 125 shot in 2nd and 3rd gear would put u there easy, but 100shot off the line with some nice tires, and you'll be there as well...Make sure to get the wet plate system...Lots more safe...Happy Spraying!

sounds good to me, but why wet plate? I was thinking dry for ease of installation. I've got a brand new, I'm talking 500 miles on it, fuel pump so I dont think I need to switch yet

If you already have a good exhaust system,
k&n's , and the usual fpr, air foil ect. How about a cam and rockers. You could probably get a cam, springs and programing for that much, if you shop around.
You will definately run faster on nos but you don't have to refill a cam at 35 bucks a pop.
just my .02

I am one of the dissenters. I've had NO2 for four years er, well had it anyway til last month. If it's ONLY for the track, do it. If you like to play around in other venues think about this.
When you are about to race you think "hmm... do I need to waste a shot on him" If ya don't and loose it's too late, and if ya do and blow em away you just wasted some of your limited supply. The nearest refill center for me is about 25 miles and because of work conflicts I can only get there on saturdays. That and it's about $30 or so a bottle. If I used it every time I wanted to I would have had the money for a blower a while ago. If I could go back I'd put that money into heads or something that I have all of the time. Of course, when you are sprayed It'll kick ya pretty good. I turned a few LT1 heads in my (stock) Camaro RS. Your choice but since you are on a limited budget think real hard about what you are gonna do. just my 2 cents.

BTW, although it would bolt right into my new bird, I'm ditching the juice.

Formerly a fairly quick 92 RS 305TBI 5-speed. Now just a stock 305 TBI Firebird.
***WARNING*** If you value your car, don't let the wife drive.

texas, maby you just worded whaty ou said wrong... but its not that you need a new fuel pump if its old... you need a new(and more capable) one to flow enough gas - gasoline. you will need a computer chip, so when you hit the switch, the performance chip tells the engine to toss some more gas in with the mix, otherwise the enigne will run lean, and very bad things happen then(i've seen a piston broken in half because of this).. so yea, i dont mess with computer controlled things to much, so i couldnt tell you how, but i know this is what most people do, or some people do anyways when they install nitrous...dont get to over zealous with the juice either

thanks for the warnings guys, I've got the same problem you have Jedabias, I'd have to go about 40 miles to fill up and also only on weekends, but then again I don't know if there are any shops in town that will fill my tank. I was planning on using it for the street, every friday night a bunch of my friends and I get together, find an open road, and have fun. so that would be the only time that I would use it, and only if I saw a car worthy of it. now I'm kinda torn though, I can't decide if I want to go with a Borla cat-back, or the nitrous. same price, different results! I'm kinda leaning toward the cat-back but still thinking about nitrous. another question though, why couldn't I use a system made for TPI instead of the $150 more expensive LT1 system? they look the same to me
