Stock short block + ATI D1SC = Puff Puff (Black smoke)

Would a stock short block handle this blower?

How about replacing the cast pistons with Forged TRW flat-tops and running aluminum heads?

Are Forged Pistons mandatory?
Stock Rods any good with ARP bolts?
Forged Crank necessary?
What compression ratio to run?

I currently have the D1sc installed on my STOCK 350....i have not had a chance yet to really drive the car (michigan winter)...

you can install this kit on a stock engine but you have to run minimal boost (10# max w/ intercooler) and i have a msd btm for just in case i start getting detonation, there are other alternatives though, like water injection,

If you have forged parts you'll be able to run more boost, plus they are a great insurance policy, much stronger than stock pieces...

I'll keep everyone posted on what, if anything happens to my car this spring when i finally get to drive it...

later

well, forged stuff is nice but only required on high hp engines or cars that are mainly drag cars. honestly though, ANY PISTON WHETHER IT IS $50 A PIECE OR $100 A PIECE wont last when you have a lot of detonation.

Well Maniac, u sure living up to your name. Keep us informed when the nasty weather goes away and your Camaro takes on the street. I will set up a T-minus countdown to Blown engine j/k

But for real how did you get that monster pullied down to 10? I personally spoke to someone in ATI and he said the most you could bring them down to is 12. Am I missing something here or is he holding back some info? I want to know what you get on the kit when you bought the D-1sc and what pullies came with it and what pullies you need to buy separately?

Here's one stat line I would like to see from Maniac after only 1 "bolt on"

350 stock e.t mph
350 D1SC e.t mph

The D1SC originally came with the 12-rib system, regardless of blower pulley size. The sizes that are available are:

4.25"
4.00"
3.70"
3.40"

Maniacc's nearly stock 350 was sized with a 4.00" blower pulley good for 10 lbs boost. Ironically, my modified 305 was sized with the same pulley, also good for 10 lbs boost. Since we both bought our D1SC kits, ATI has changed the rib configuration. Now with the 4.25" and 4.00" pulleys, you get the 8-rib system.

You get everything you need, including ATI's proprietary fluid for their self-contained blowers enough for four oil changes. When you order the kit, they ask a ton of questions about your car. They calculate the blower pulley size based on your information. When I ordered mine, I told them that I wanted to start at 10 lbs, eventually to work up to 15 lbs. I got the 4.00" pulley. Since then, I requested the next smaller pulley, which they mailed to me at no charge.

I'm encountering a slightly lean condition. I will not run an FMU because it has very limited functionality. One alternative is to go with larger injectors and an EPROM recalibration. The problem with this solution is the fact that my MAF maxes out at 255 g/s at ~3,000 rpm, so airflow measurements above this point are invalid. A second alternative is to go with Carroll's Superfueler system. It is a stand alone supplemental fuel injection system that can be calibrated at ten individual set points along the boost curve. A third alternative would be to go with the Syclone/Typhoon speed density setup, which I'm currently researching.

What's the advantage of going with a SyTy speed density system as opposed to a newer Third gen Speed density system?

The SyTy speed density system uses a 2-bar MAP sensor, which continues to monitor engine demand when in boost and continues to make adjustments. The third gen SD system (1-bar MAP) does not do this because it was never designed for boost applications.

yeah....i would think that a TPI with SD and a 2 or 3 bar MAP sensor would be the best considering all the articles we have with custom prom tuning.
