I've never heard of them till recently.. (I'm a little slow...) where can I find a description of these parts (if anyone could explain them that'd be great..) what do they look like, and how much do they cost... where can I get them.. etc...

You can get them through Summit or Jegs for around $50 a pair. You can also get them individually, but I am unsure of the cost. It is shaped like a small "Y" with one side going to the muffler and the other end has a cap that has three wing nuts. When you take the cap off the exhaust exits there instead of through the muffler. You dont have as much torque with the cap off, but it's a lot louder and you have more top end power.

u can also try J.C whitney they sell them in 3 inch applications and have a cable to release the cap or close it while your in the car. i believe they are $48.00.

If you are looking for one that is all billet & extreamly slick check this out. http://topflightperformance.com/products.htm the flanges on these are exactly the same size as the flanges on the Borla Exh that fit on the 4th gen cars (for reference i know this is the 3rd gen site).

well it depends on where u live her in NY cops dont really car. I run open headers on my 71' Duster w/ 340 and i swear on anything never got pulled over or even a ticket.
gotta luv NYC cops

 

see I'm going to primarily have them open around like state college pa (center of pa) there is like nothing here besides Penn State, so I figure if I like close it when I'm in PSU and just run it open when I'm on the long stretch of highway to my house they really shouldn't care.. does this sound right?? anyone in PA have any suggestions??

From my experience I would suggest getting the cutout that u can manually take off and on, the one with the cable does not seal all to well. So it sounds like you've got a constant exahust leak...and I dont know about you, but that is one of the most annoying things to me...Cops in the city's may care, becuase it sounds loud, they will assume ur going faster... But that's just some cops...U can take it off and on, once u hear it, u can be the judge of when to have it on and when not to, it is extremly loud...I never put one on my Z, but I had one on my 305TBI and it sounded like a drag car....
