Turbocharger idea
Turbocharger idea
Okay, knowing that I'd need to get custom headers for a turbo, why not mount the turbo somewhere down the exhaust line, and run an air intake line all the way back? Im sure there's plenty of room in place of a cat, right?

Theoratically it can be done. I once saw a 7 or 8 second car that had the turbo mounted where the passengers seat used to be. But no there isn't enough room where the cat used to be...to even be an option you'd have to cut the floor and recess the turbo up quite a ways. Plus the farther back you put it, the more lag time you will get.
I wouldn't call it a feasable idea if you wanted to keep a passengers seat.

The obstacle to overcome would be getting the oil back to the crankcase. I've been quietly designing a single turbo setup for my Durango where I was going to do the same thing. A company called "Aerocharger" (aerocharger.com, duh) makes a turbo with a self contained lube system, but they are not large enough. A twin setup might be large enough to feed a V8.
Callaway used a separate oil drain pump for its low mounted turbos.
It's very important that the oil drain from the turbos has *no* restriction at all, does not cause a trap (think under your sink), and enters the oilpan above the oil level. Otherwise, the oil will not easily drain from the center section, and you'll have seal problems, as well as the oil coking onto the shaft and bearings. HTH!

Boy I HATE it when that happens. this is a good sign though. if you are making enough HP to twist up the drive shaft that means that both you are making some HP & that you are putting it to the ground
