It takes 20-25 foot-pounds....

Where is the tech section?!?!? Oh well

to rotate my half-way assembled engine. 350, +0.040, 3.75 stroke. Pistons with rings are in along with the cam and timing chain. No lifter and the heads are bolted on.

Anyone have similar numbers?

That # will go up as more of the pistons are installed. On a new engine it takes a LOT of work to get it to turn. Come pistons 7 and 8 its a workout.

All 8 are installed. That is why the heads are bolted (and sealed) on.

if you don't have the lifters installed, it's gonna be harder to turn over because your not opening any valves.

I guarantee that it will be harder to turn with the valvetrain in. I have heard that a 350 chevy need 45 foot lbs to turn.

I know what Larry ment. He just worded it incorrectly.

He said that it would be harder to turn an engine over because the engine is not opening any valves. So it would be easier to turn an engine over because the engine is opening valves.

sorry, i had my head up my *** when i responded to this thread yesterday, what i mean't to say was it would harder to turn the engine over with the cyl. heads AND sparkplugs installed and no lifters, versus a engine with the cyl.heads, sparkplugs and valve train.

I'm sure there is a spec for the amount of torque it takes to roll the crank around, but i don't know what it is, but 20-25 ft.lbs doesn't seem bad at all, and as long as it rolls over smoothly you should have no problems.

so sorry.

MANIACC got it right the heads and the plugs are the key to a hard to turn engine
