Performance chip- How well do they work?
I am going to be purchasing an upgrade chip for my car, and I was wondering how well they work. I have been looking into the Fastchip- any testimonials? If anyone hasnt used this, what other models have you used and how well do they work? What exactly will it affect, and what kind of 0-60 improvement should I expect? Do any other mods have to be done to the car before I install the chip?

And the Camaro said to the Civic "Now, I know what you're thinking...in all of that mess, did he have 8 cylinders, or only 6? You just gotta ask yourself one question...do you feel lucky? Well do ya....punk???

Looks like a good question to ask on the ECM board,
https://www.thirdgen.org/cgi-bin/mes...r=31&SUBMIT=Go
Most affect wide open throttle air/fuel ratio and ignition timing, some turn on the cooling fan at a cooler temp.
You will get more answers on the ECM board though.

i had a stage 2 fastchip, i like it, made a nice difference from like 3K rpms + pulled harder. I'm probably ditching the whole L98 anyway and going turbo 3.8

LOL, that sounds more like the reply they give (and you would expect) on the " DIY PROM (do it yourself PROM)" board when someone asks about a generic store bought chip.
The ECM board would be the place to ask.
There are two reasons they give that reply.
1. It isn't the "store bought PROM" board. It's the DIY PROM board.
2. It's completely true.
There is no way that a store bought PROM that was burned to calibrate the air/fuel mix and spark for a stock engine at wide open throttle while keeping the stock GM calibration at part throttle to comply with the EPA is going to work best on an engine with modifications.
The ECM board would be a better place to ask than the Power Adder board.
A "power adder" = forced induction, like superchargers, turbochargers, nitrous oxide etc.
A "power adder" is not a chip, K&N filter, cam, throttle body, chrome valve covers, etc.
A chip question posted here should relate only to the calibration for an engine with a power adder. Even then you would be better off to post the same Q on the ECM or PROM boards as well, because more "chip Experts" hang out there than here.

Just a possible $ and power tip too:
Many have found that adjusting the fuel pressure with an adjustable regulator and tweaking the base ignition timing while using a stock chip, gets a better HP gain than just putting in an "over the counter" store bought chip.
The regulator and a timing light + a test&tune sesion at the drag strip is cheaper than a chip. Your ride will be quicker and you'll have enough pocket change left over to take your chic to a flick.

I liked the results I got on my 85 tpi from the hypertech thermomaster chip, thermostat, tpis air foil, k&ns, cutout air filter boxes, mass air without vanes and screens, vette/4.3 v6 converter (#7 stamped converter housing), solid rod end control arms, no front sway bar, dead old front struts, 3:73 gears, and hollowed cat = 14.50 at 90 mph at sears point raceway. the bad part of the combo on this car was no subframe connectors, bald 295/50/15 bfg t/a's, and open (no posi) diff.
