FMU Vs. Adj fuel pressure regulator

Is there anyway that i can get rid of my fmu and just use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator in my Tuned Port car? I have to get a special one that can read boost right? Or can I use the one thats already on it? 24Lbs injectors seem a lil small for a 383ci 12lbs boost car? Thanks

With 24lb injectors on a 383ci need an FMU. The injectors are not large enough to spray the amount of fuel required at the stock fuel pressure.

A regular vacuum reference fuel regulator will give a small amount of fuel pressure adjustment and are not intended to supply extra fuel for boost. I use a stock LT1 fuel pressure regulator with larger injectors that can support the HP level of my engine. The LT1 regulator is a plain old vacuum referenced fuel pressure that will increase the fuel pressure 1:1. That is, it increase the fuel pressure by 1 PSI for every PSI of boost. It basically makes it so the injectors don't flow less when under boost.

Anyway, you need an FMU or larger injectors and a custom PROM.

so if the LT1 regulator will work , why won't the stock TPI ( vacuum referenced as well ) ?

It will if you have a big enough injector that doesn't need the higher pressure from the FMU to get the fuel flow.

Like me and junkcltr with our TT 350's were running 42's (well he is,mines still in pieces ) and I think were getting close to the limit of our injectors at near stock fuel pressures.

I am thinking on trying the 42's with a 165 setup and just try the MAF tables to see if I can get an ...okay tune .

what kind of FMU would you need for a car puting out 12psi of boost, a 1:1 i know that the color of the FMU signifies what the ratio is like the blue one is different then the gold one well at least with the vorteck FMU.
