to spray or not to spray

Ok... If you guys had an engine that you bought prebuilt and you were putting it in your car that was strictly a street car and not a daily driver, and say that this engine had a 150 shot already hooked up to it with a full bottle. And just for laughs, say this engine put 450hp to the wheels without the nitrous and you were running stock 16x8 rims with street tires...... Would you run the nitrous or sell it because it would be too much?

if the motor was built for it i would spray the ***** off of it...completely empty the bottle somewhere, anywhere..... then use it only when i go to the track lol

Yeah I want to spray it, but I worry about frying street tires and not really being able to put the power to the road. I wouldn't worryu as much if I had 10 or 11 inch rear tires, but I would like to keep the stock rims. You know... the sleeper type of thing.

By the way the engine was built to easily handle a 200 hp shot. I was thinking 100 or so. I have jets for 100 150 and 200 shot.

you can run a decently wide tire on an 8 inch rim... and still kee the sleeper look... yeah but empty the bottle out on some back long empty road....have fun with it... then fill it and only use it at the track or when your havin trouble with another car.... oh and go to pepboys 50 bucks a tire lol i go there

Well this is the first time I attempt an engine swap so I got a friend to help me and he's one of those "I'm a breastfed man and I don't like bottles" kind of guys. He said that the nitrous would do me no good because it would "just spin the tires while you get beat by a civic." I just figured I'ld ask for opinions... I mean, its already hooked up man!!!!

dude i am normally the breastfed type... but l8tly ive been warming up to the posibilities... only because i heard a guy at work say 13 seconds is slow now... but i ll probly keep away from the bottle personally unless i get the chance like you did... already hooked up... and breast fed person will use it if its there...i

He's got an 86 z28 that runs low 9's without any power adders, although its far from a street legal car. But I think that us guys that run pump gas could always use a little help. Would running a 150 shot require daily tuning or is it one of those things that when you get it set up and dialed in you don't have to mess with it much. It's not a daily driven car nor will it see much track use

spray it!!
Well your buddy has a 9 sec trailer queen. Your car is a totally different animal. Yes 13s just arent as quick as it used to be..although a respectable..time..there is always somebody faster!! As far as blowing the tires off is up to you,,and run it on pump gas..its definately the cheapest power adder (purchase price)or add a turbo or supercharger

Yeah, I know its a different animal. My choices here were to run the nitrous that is already hooked up or sell it and use the cash for other mods. If the nitrous would only spin the tires and not make the car conciderably faster I would be better selling it.

The car has bilstein shocks and struts, sportline lowering springs, spohn wonderbar, front and rear sway bars, sfc's, lca relocation brackets, Bmr adjustable panhard bar, and stock 16x8 rims. The engine is a 355 with aluminum heads at 11:1 compression. The tranny is a 350 and the gears are stock 2.73 for now. The gears will be changed to 3.73 and I am still open to suggestions. The car is only driven on the weekends and never taken to the track................so how about now?

Oh.. and the tires will be changed to some really good street tires like goodyear gs-d3, nitto's or something of the like!

Learn to drive the car and use nitrous when you know you wont be spinning.

Two things, first keep the bottle and buy a second set of wheels/tires, something along the lines of ET Streets. Nothing wrong with changing em on the weekend, takes 20 minutes. The other thing is if you keep the bottle 3.73s may be too much gear for your ET with a 3 speed (and probably will be) With a set of lower numerical gears it will also tend not to dust the tires as bad. something closer to 3.23s or 3.42s would probably be more practical with the power you'd make on the bottle. Drag Performance Calculator Try this out.

Get a nitrous controller. You can run the nitrous off of a RPM switch so that it only arms the solenoids at certain RPM. Like after you are out of hole and tire spin will be at a minumum.

Or run a micro switch similar to a full throttle switch off of the shifter so that the nitrous is only turned on when you hit a certain gear.

Oh yeah and Drag radials.

That sounds like a plan guys. The only thing is that the guy doing my build for me is doing the work for free and will give me a set of 3.73's. So my options are take the 3.73's, keep my stock 2.73's or pony up some cash for new gears........well?

Ok.. I've decided to run the nitrous. I've been doing some searching and have learned alot. What I want to know now is would it be safe to run a 200 shot on pump gas. I've read about running a seprate fuel cell with race fuel and this could be an option for me but I don't understand exactly how its hooked up. The motor will be built to run nitrous and produce a little over 400 hp alone and have about 9.8- 10:1 static compression. All internals are forged.

With a seprate fuel cell does the racing fuel just spray with the N2O or does the whole motor run on the racing fuel when you spray?

Thanks in advance!

The separate fuel cell is strickly for the fuel side of the nitrous kit. Also I would advise if you're going to spray it, start small then work you're way up untill you get used to the "hit". Nitrous hits hard when you use it. I run a 100 shot and street tires and can't use it till second gear and even then I end up spinning half of second gear. Definately drag radials for anything more then that. Definately stand alone fuel system with 100+ octane for anything more then 150.

Yah, if you got 450 RWHP then you prolly got traction problems. And there's no need wasting time setting up the system or money filling the bottle if all you are going to do is spin more...

Yah, just fuel side of the nitrous kit...

You are in for some traction problems. I've spun both (I got a locker) of my 275/45/20s on the street and on the drag strip through first gear on just a 100 shot.

Ok guys, I'll try the 100 shot first. I have a seprate set of identical rims for the car and I was going to use drag radials on the weekends to get a little more hp to the pave.

Thanks for the advice!

If ya got extra wheels put some slicks on them...

Your rear-end is prolly gonna blow...

Yeah, I know. But can you think of a better excuse to buy a 12 bolt?

If it's an auto and you want to run street tires you will have a hard time running from a stop. Drag radials, a decent converter and a progressive controller would work for street use only. It will be hard to hook up from a stop with deep gears and anything over a 175 shot.

I probably will run a 100 shot but not more than 150. I would like to get away from drag radials if possible, but it looks like they are a must to put this kind of horses to the pave.
