can I keep the stock harmonic blancer? or is it good to replace it?

when i installed my 142, i ended up buying a fluid dampner just to be safe. they were not that bad through summit (on sale). i wouldn't think you need to buy another one unless it looks like it is beat up. worn?

I'm using an OEM replacement with mine. No troubles yet. I'm not going past 5500 rpm tho...

Stock balancer on my motor. To 6000 many times. The balancer doesn't really see any more stress with a little roots blower- but the upper half of your front main bearing does! Ask me how I know.

HEY DAMON, HOW DO YOU KNOW? -LOL well you told us to ask you..
managed to get a 12.5 @ 108 with the firechicken. horrible launches and stopping early at the end. the 11's are sounds pretty good...
should you or i fill him in on the do's and dont's with the 142 setup -lol be prepared to have a day to smile when you get into the boost.

Heh heh. I know becuase I saw them down to the copper when I was in there replacing broken pistons- on 3 different occasions.
Yeah, I guess we should let him know a few of the dos and don'ts. I'll start with these:
DON'T run too much compression. 8:1 will be fine. 8.5:1 is "high compression" in a roots-blown motor. Detonation is always right around the corner with a roots blower. And I don't mean that kind of detonation that just offends the ears. I mean the kind that blows a motor to smithereens and you never even hear it. Your first clue is when you blow piston chunks out your exhaust.
DON'T run too much spark advance. I'm at 26* safely, 28* marginally in my 383 with 8:1 squeeze and making about 470HP.
DON'T run lean. Run lean and things go "bang" very quickly. Make sure your carb is jetted rich enough and that your fuel supply can keep up under all conditions. A fuel pressure gague where you can read it while driving should be almost mandatory.
DO put a big carb on it. Roots blowers hate carb restriction. Think about it like carbing for a 454ci big block, not a 350 small block. I run an 800CFM QJet on my 142, but I'm weird.
DO put a good flowing exhaust on it. Again, think bigger than you would for a N/A 350.
DO set aside money for a new hood. A stock 3rd gen hood will never clear unless you cut a big hole in it. 4" cowl induction hood would be about the least you can get away with.
