How to run a progressive shot

Ok guys, I'm building a 350 sbc bored .040 over. All the specs are listed here.

97 hyd roller block
comp cams Xr276
GM 292 heads (probably)
speed pro forged flattop pistons at around 10:1 static cr
holley 4 barrel carb with mechanical secondaries
weiand stealth aluminum manifold
1.5 aluminum roller rockers
100 shot of the juice

To make a long story short I bought a complete drag car for a steal from a friend who was having trouble with the engine. I pieced it out and I'm basically getting my 350 built for free.

He was running an NX plate system thats adjustable for a 100-200 shot (I think.) I know little about nitrous but I'm thinking of running a 100 shot in the 350 which was built to handle it (forged pistons, chrome moly rings, dual pattern cam, etc.) I've never run nitrous before, but who wouldn't if they had a complete system for free?

I have heard chatter in nitrous threads about "progressive" shots. The system I have is not currently set up for that, but since it is a weekend warrior that will see limited track use, I would rather a progressive shot.

Is there a conversion kit that I can purchase that will allow me to run a progerssive shot or do I have to buy a whole new system?

Thanks for helping a newbie

you`ll need a controller that will ramp in the nitrous over time and percentage, jacobs and NOS both have decent ones for a budget price...When you run a progressive system you need a second solenoid...it pulses while the original one opens to let the metered amount through. I would guess with a 100 shot you wouldn`t need one though IMO.

But if it allows me to run a bigger shot without spinning the tires, then I'll do it. The engine is built with all forged internals so it can handle alot. If a progressive shot would allow me to run a 200 shot without frying the tires, then thats what I'll run.

The car will always have street tires and probably never slicks, so 200 may be too much.

I have the nos progressive controller the second solenoid is a saftey I never ran two solenoids. I dont think you will need a progressive kit for a 100hp shot try it with a good set of tires you may be surprised.

Well....... I was thinking 200 if the progressive would allow the tires to handle it.

My car ran 1.55 to a 1.50 60 ft with street tires and would work on the street as long as thre was not a lot of dirt on the ground.I used a 175 shot car ran bottom 11s on nos. with a 327ci motor.

If your going to be running more that 125hp shot you will need a dedicated fuel line, a low pressure cut out switch for saftey , retard your timing or get a retard box, and a lot cooler plug. I would spend my cash on some good meat for the back and just shoot a 125 shot to it and laugh about it, you may want to look into a driveshaft loop........lol Good luck.

Got the driveshaft loop. Thanks. I'll probably just run the 100 shot jets.

What's the ring gap on that super nitrous motor? That will be a determining factor as well. For 100 shot don't worry about it. For your 200 hit, you'll have other problems to worry about besides traction.

I'll have to ask my buddy that helped me build it, but I think I decided that a 125 shot would be plenty enough for a street car.
