Why can't I run nitrous with synthetic oil?
My engine builder told me that nitrous and synthetic oil "do not mix well." When I asked why, he said that he has never run nitrous, but his good friend has built dozens of nitrous motors and he says that he didn't explain exactly why but it doesn't.
From my experience with these guys, I gathered that they build mostly drag engines so they are spraying every time they run. I won't be using the nitrous much at all and the whole not mixing well with synthetic sounds fishy to me.
So..... How many of you are running nitrous with synthetic?

Thanks Devil. You're always quick to the point. I'll call the guy tomorrow and ask for details. I'm sure you're dying to hear this explanation.

Why am I tempted to respond to the above with 'Stop posting stupid ****'?

Read under my user name "305 TBI for now"
Also used key words "engin builder"
Thanks for caring, but you're response has nothing at all to do with the question.
Aw, Red Devil beat me to the sarcasm. What a surprise.

I have never heard of such crap, what do they think all the PRO MOD cars run. I have been running it Nitrous for over 20years from the first plate kits to twin 4's progressive set ups and never had a problem with that. If it would make you feel better whay dont you contact some of the NOS providers and see what they have to say.

I will definitely get his number and call him tomorrow and ask for a detailed explanation of why he said that. This is my first build and assinine was the first thing that came into my head when he said that. But I didn't say anything to him beacuse it was his buddy that actually said it and you all know how passed on info gets misconstrued.
I'll be sure to post his answer here so you guys can have a go at him.

I ran synthetic oil for 2 years in my 305 with nitrous. The biggest shot I used was a 145hp shot.

Yea, but you blew it up LB9GTA
That is a strange thought, perhaps an old wives tale. I'm guessing this guy didn't just pull that idea out of thin air, so he has to have SOME kind of info backing it.
I'm also anxious to hear the reasoning.

Ok....I called the guy. He lives in Kentucky and he wasn't home. I ask my buddy, who is his buddy, why would he say such a thing? He starts to explain to me (remember that I'm hearing this in second person so you're hearing it in third person) that he runs a tractor in the tractor pulls. His rig has 4 hemis that run on nitro methane and each takes a 500 shot of nitrous for a grand total around 7500 hp.
Eaven though he is running a lot of nitrous I hardly think that just because he had some problems with his combo while he happened to have synthetic oil in his engines makes him an expert on nitrous or synthetic oil in street engines. But remember, I haven't talked directly to him yet, but he is supposed to call me back.
Feel free to chime in here, but I think that there is nothing that he can say that will make me run conventional oil, I'm gonna run synthetic anyway, but I still want to hear him out.... you know, just for the hell of it.
