Need help with fuel system for 200 shot

I'm building my car from scratch and I'm on the fuel system right now. The motor is just an average 350[with forged shortblock] - small cam(non-roller), ported crappy heads, RPM air-gap intake w/ Holley 750DP. It has longtube headers with x pipe and 2.5 true duals with no mufflers. Redline is set at 6000. I'm planning to get a fuel cell installed. It says it has -8AN Outlet and -6AN return line. I can't afford that nice -8AN braided line from the cell to the carb. So my question is, can I get away with just running stainless steel [or aluminum] 3/8" line from the pump[Holley Blue] to the carb? I'm planning on shooting anywhere from a 150 to 200 shot at the track. And where does this 6AN return line come from? The regulator that comes with the pump isn't a return style regulator. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

First of all the Holley blue is a POS pump. What i did on mine was buy hard lines from summing 25' rolls are like $30. I ran those from the cell to the front. The regulator you have is pretty crappy too, and if you want to run return style, you need a return style regulator thats where the return line will come from. If you plan on running 150-200 shot on top of you're motor you're going to need either a dedicated fuel system or a pretty big fuel pump. something like an Aeromotive A1000 or a Magnafuel 500. Skimping on the fuel system will only end up with bad results, especially on a nitrous motor where fuel is key to engine survival.

you can run 2 holley blues, one for motor and one for nitrous, or buy one bigger pump, but it does not sound like you have enough in your budget to do it properly if you think $100 of braided line is going to make you broke.

No, $100 of braided line won't make me broke, but I'm not sure I need braided line for $100 when WheelsUp just said it can be done with $30 hardline. The extra $ can be spent on connections, clamps, etc. But yeah, you're right I didn't set out enough in my fuel system budget. I'm not a cheap-***, I just didn't know what it took all that to shoot 200 properly. What do you run for a fuel system XPNDBL3? I just talked to some friends from the track and they agreed that the Holley pumps aren't made like they used to be. Do I need a return style system? I'm here to learn, so don't get all shitty on me.

Re: Need help with fuel system for 200 shot

You can run a dead head system, but if you street drive it alot or if its you're DD, you want to go with a return. Otherwise the fuel can get hot sitting in the lines and possibly cause vaporlock...which is BAD news. Here's a few things that will probably be best for you to use. Dont forget filters, and fittings as well. You might want to get a few feet of either twist loc or braided steel fittings by the filters and pump so they are easy to connect/disconnect later on. This system with all the fittings should be around $530 for a pretty solid street/strip setup. Hope this helps

Aeromotive pump (for the motor, just used the holley blue for the nitrous only) $175

Re: Need help with fuel system for 200 shot

My fuel system is way overboard for what you're looking to do, I have $1500 in the fuel system from front to back alone easily. If you want to run 2 pumps then the holley blues are fine. You can even add a 1 gallon cell to the front for the nitrous only and then it'll only be 5 feet of braided line total for the nitrous side and a deadhead regulator that comes with it will be fine for the nitrous side. A holley blue will supply the motor as well, or if you want to run 1/2" hardline you can go for a aeromotive Street/Strip pump and that should keep up. When you get into the -12 lines into the pump and -10 out with a -8 return that's when the costs really go up.

Thanks ya'll. Thats exactly what I needed. XPNDL3, that's a nice ride you have there...it looks like it's all business under the hood. I appreciate the info.
