Thinking about a procharger...

My goal is 500rwhp and I am trying to get there as economically as possible. Maybe this is not the cheapest way to get there so I am open to any suggestions. I dont want to do nitrous though. I am thinking of going with a gm crate 4 bolt main with the cast crank shortblock. Replace the pistons with some forged speed pros or something simmilar. Then purchasing the Procharger kit for carbs. I will be using AFR 190 heads, 650 holley, LT4 hotcam, LT etc. I am thinking about 7-8 pounds of boost and limiting rpm to
5800 or so. I have done quite a bit of research and I think I sould be ok with the cast crank as long I dont detonate th engine.

A cast crank is going to be fine for 500 hp. The stock rods will need some ARP bolts. A two bolt main block will also work as long as you don't spin the engine pass 6K rpms, a set of ARP studs will make it better. For a Carb set up will work best with a B&M style supercharger, a procharger works best with fuel injection.

Why do you think that? That's something I have never heard before and seeing how well over 4 digit horsepower numbers and well into the single digit times have been done with a procharger and a carb, I would tend to disagree.

Re: Thinking about a procharger...

I am curious about this as well. My eventual goal is 500rwhp as well and I have been planning a Procharger just as SACH has.

Re: Thinking about a procharger...

I had a gm 350ho cast crate engine at 9psi with a procharger p1sc and it was very reliable and powerful (440 rwhp) with stock everything. Now its getting turboed, we'll see how long it can hold together.
