I was trying to explanation to some one y a BOV helps keep boost up when you shift on a stick car. the explanation i used is
with the blow off it keeps the turbo from stalling when you let off so it dosnt drop all your boost it free wheels till you hit the gas and then it snaps shut and boost comes on alot faster because it dumps the boost the turbo stays spooled insted of backing up and stalling so when you open the blade back up the bov closes and boost resumes
this is on a stick car on a fast shift or am i nuts and have it all wrong

Well.. there is two ways of looking at it.
When you have a BOV.. it dumps all the boost between the throttlebody and impeller.
With out a BOV it only allows some of it to go backwards through the impeller and would leave some boost between the two.
I ran my stick turbo car for 40,000mi with no bov... My MAF was confused by not having one and would stall sometimes. I installed one and it was a little better but not solved. It seemed that it took a touch longer to rebuild boost with the BOV than with out. That car was at 13psi. I'm not a beleiver that a BOV is neccry. for every application or that with out one you will harm the turbo. I've never seen a turbo failure by not running a BOV.
