Help please- reccomendation on SC

Hi, I am new to superchargers (I mean I know how they work, but nothing about their brands or how they are mounted). I found a supercharger for sale on craigslist for $200 (and it comes with a holley 750 carb!). But, money is limited. So I was wondering how hard would it be for me to install on my car? Its a 79 sbc engine. The ad didn't give very much information about it, all it said was a magnuson supercharger off a vette 350. I don't know how to post pics, but if someone says how, I could post one of it if you guys need one.

So it mounts on top of the intake manifold, and I need to run a belt to the front, right? It almost doesn't look deep enough to cover the whole length of the intake manifold? or maybe that's just a proportion illusion. And I don't know where the carb would go if it mounts there... since they are selling the holley 750 with it as a package I kind of assume they're compatible, but could someone briefly explain how they fit together? Engine bay room isn't an issue. I planned on getting a junk hood and cutting a hole for a scoop anyway.

Is this the kind of project where the issue is going to be it's time consuming (I'm in highschool, I have time), or where I will need to buy a lot of parts? If I bought this thing do you think I (with the help of you all and my friends) could get this thing on and running? As soon as I saw the ad, I couldn't help but think of all the wondrous potential... I mean 200 (remember the carb comes too) is crazy cheap right? I'm waiting for my paintball gun and xbox to sell so I'll have some extra cash, but I was going to jump on it ASAP. I was going to ask him to hold it for me... but I mean I wouldn't if I were selling something. What do you guys think?

Re: Help please- reccomendation on SC

$200 for a maggy is suspiciously cheap

Sounds shady

Meet the guy in person, check the rotors for visible damage, wiggle the snout pulley and check for play, windmill it and listen for bad sounds etc

Something its right. If it is actually a good maggy, then grab it up and resell it. Use that money to mod your car

Well like I said, I should have the money soon. I do want to jump on this thing. But what I was really wondering was does it mount on top of the intake, under the carb? Or would I have to fab something to hold it off on the side? The picture was low res, but it didn't look like there was a place for the carb to bolt on.

I've searched google for these things, and I saw them with no carb on top, and with one on there. I don't really know which the one for sale is. I asked the seller, and they didn't have a clue. So I asked for pictures of it and possibly when it was on the car. I automatically assumed it was a guy, but it is a woman, who actually knows practically nothing about it. so she had no clue. I'm waiting for her reply.

But even I it isn't what i'm looking for, how much could it be going for?

I don't think that's for an sbc. It looks kinda like a grand prix supercharger and it really doesn't look like that carb will fit it. See if you can get the part # off it.

Yeah, thats what I thought. At first because they said it was on a 350 vette, and it comes with a holley 750 carb, I figured they both were compatible. But I decided not to buy it because there are more important things I have to buy first to get the T/A ready for spring.

Re: Help please- reccomendation on SC

I didn't see the pictures, but an M62 is way small for a 350. A stock M90 is too small for a 350 (but ported and heavily modified could be made to work to about the 500hp range). If you're not up for that then I'd start looking at the M112's...
