any reputable builder to assemble and machine my engine?
any reputable builder to assemble and machine my engine?
I have a 2 bolt main 1pc 350 block which i will be building a 383 for boost with forged eagle crank, h-beam rods and srp pistons with afr 210cc heads. My question is
I need a machine shop that i can send everything to and have them do the machine work like splayed 4 bolt main caps, .030" overbore, hot tank the block, i also need it balanced.
I want to know what shops are good before i spend money as well as an average of how much all that stuff will run me + price fo the short block assembled and clearanced for boost vs not assembled.
any help and input is welcomed.

Location?
You'll need to find a shop that can do the line hone after installing the splayed caps. It's pretty expensive I believe, like $500 alone. Much easier to use a 4 bolt block with studded centers.

im in Va and i havent found any local shops that do that. Do you think a studded 4 bolt will be as reliable as a splayed 4 bolt? im looking to max out my master power t70 turbo which is rated at about 650. So i guess i need the block to handle ~700

Where in VA?
Northern VA/DC metro, I'd say just find someone else's project or some other source... machine work is just insane around the dc metro area (I keep watching things like powerblock and reading the various car rags going "where the hell did they get that work done for that cheap?" It seems that machine work runs about 2x what it should around here, so it's either figure out a way to do it yourself, buy parts predone from outside the area or spend the $$$.

If you dont mind shipping and sending the stuff, Carl Hinkson at CNC Blocks Northeast could do a good job on your stuff and is reasonable priced. He may even have a block there you can buy and have him do for you. He did my Dart SHP block and balanced the rotor assembly
That 383 will max that out quick
4 bolt studded block should be ok. I ran about 650 through my 383 for alittle while and never had a problem but that motor only saw 1600 miles before i sold it

im in the richmond area and i only know of a few shops around her but they dont mess with splaying stuff. I dont have a problem with shipping stuff as long as the shop is worth it and its a decent price.

I got quoted $1200 for hot tanking, decking, boring, line honing, grinding the crank, fitting rods/pistons/rings, and assembly. Balancing would be 200 more.

By the time you have all the machine work done for splayed caps, align boring the crank, boring/honing cylinders, clearancing, hot tanking etc. - you might be better off getting a aftermarket block with all the machine work done already. Then all you have to do is get the rotating assy balanced and assemble it yourself.
Probably what I would do, and you'd have a much better block too.

Carl at CNC Blocks Northeast can get you a Dart SHP block 1799 all machined ready to go with splayed caps shipped to your door. Can handle the boost abit better than the 1pc GM blocks plus you can get it in a 4.125" bore for the same price and have more cubes to make more power with less boost. Your talking about a possible high 9 second car thats as streetable as a mild cammed L98 on just 10-12psi boost on pump gas
