ProCharged LB9 build, what heads and cam grind?

I'm starting to get a parts list together for my rebuild. I'm going to be using a ProCharger, hopefully with the cog belt setup and dual ICs, on a very built LB9. I'm going with a complete Crower forged lightweight rotating assembly.

For heads, I am thinking the AFR 1041 with the street comp package. Are there any better options out there? I know these are 350 heads though and I really need the old AFR 180cc 305ci SBC heads but those are not made anymore. So I honestly don't know what to do, maybe I'll just look for a used set of the 180cc heads.

For the cam, back in the day I bought ******* old cam from when he had his ProCharger before he went TT. It was a Cam Motion custom with a 223/232, 509/530 on a 114.4 grind. Are there possibly any more modern grinds that have been found to work better after all these years?

Thanks!

I would give AFR a call about the heads, they are excellent heads for the street,if they can get the chamber volume you need, explain to them what you have, and what you are wanting to do,and see if they can come up with something. For the camshaft,I would contact Steve Morris at www.neweraracecraft.com , is the Top Dog in the country for camshafts Procharger applications,We have personal experiance with his camshafts,we ran one in our Drag Radial car,and I can tell you there was a large difference between his cam,and a custom Comp Cam that we had previously had in it. We did change a couple things along with the cam,but nothing major, went from 6.30's 1/8 mile to 5.80's 1/8 mile.

Re: ProCharged LB9 build, what heads and cam grind?

No Problem,do be warned that they are pricey(for a solid roller),but they are worth it. You running a hydraulic flat tappet,or hydraulic roller? His cam specs can look similar to other grinds, but his lobe profiles are different, duration numbers can look the same, but his will be different "under the curve",the "ramp" of the lobe will be different.

I am not 100% sure that he does flat tappet camshafts, but I would think he would. Also note that he uses Comp,CamMotion, and other companies to grind them for him,but he has them ground to all his specs. Mine came in a Comp Cams box,and it was a completly different spec than the custom Comp Cam I had in it,that they recommended, and ran alot better with Steve's cam. We ran a solid roller,if he does flat tappet cams,I am sure they will be cheaper by quite a bit. If you decide to go with him,Let us know if he does do flat tappets,I am intersted in the price for a hydraulic flat tappet, for future reference.

Thanks,Brian

I have a 92 so it's a roller that I'll be going with.

I'll touch base with him in a few weeks after I decide on my heads and some other things so I can give him precise info.

Do they only do solid roller/flat tappet cams? No hydraulic roller?

how much boost do you plan on running, you don't need a cog setup.

As much as 3 bars possibly and I'm intentionally building the lightweight rotating assembly and valve train I can too. I've had rib belts slip even on a stock engine.
