Adding Procharger to my 350 tpi

So I bought an 89 Iroc that was a field car for $800, it had a 350 TPI and 700r4 with a B&M shift kit in it. I took out the engine and tranny. Tore the engine down and found it is a good builder. I also bought a $3,000 procharger kit for this motor, hence this post.

I want to upgrade the motor with the procharger and not blow the thing up. I am planning on it being a street car. I already have a magnaflow and 3 inch exhaust after the headers. I have the larger intercooler as well. I also have a larger ported intake manifold from Scoggin Dickey that I was planning on adding as well to help with flow.

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions on what heads and exhaust headers I could use to help get more power out of the motor safely? Would corvette L98 heads be safe? LT1 Cam?

For a good street drive a modest 9-9.5:1 CR and around 8-10 psi you can still run pump gas. Corvette heads are aluminum TPI 350 heads with a smaller combustion chamber, if you can afford to go aftermarket you will make more power. They are decent stock pieces though with some porting. The LT1 cam isn't designed for forced induction. I'd go with a Comp blower grind to get the most out of the blower. 1 3/4 headers are the best bet and a nice free flowing 3" exhaust, the more you can flow out the better. If you are building the motor you really should step up to forged internals to make it stronger. Alot of not blowing it up will be in the tune though.

Re: Adding Procharger to my 350 tpi

The procharger model I bought is a P600 with the intercooler set up. Says it will go up to 10 to 15 psi.

I also already have 3 inch exhaust all the way back with magnaflow mufflers.

For exhaust headers, I know the length of the tubes adjusts the power curve. Would I want stock length with 1 3/4 collectors then to keep it in the 3,000 to 5,600 range?

Re: Adding Procharger to my 350 tpi

The D1 is rated at 30psi and will only put about 15 into a 350. I dont have and real world p600 numbers, but looking at flow and RPM of the blower I'd guess maxing it out would get you 10psi.

As for runner length effecting power, I don't know. I thought they effected torque more so, but yes for maximum effort long tubes would be the way to go.

I have all the parts for the next motor but im gonna go my best to do a safe tune and not blow it up. How is ur build going?

Re: Adding Procharger to my 350 tpi

Sorry for the late reply. I have been busy with a couple other projects: Paintbooth, repaired a 97 Camaro RS that I made money on and I repaired a 240sx that is now for sale to make some money on. Unfortunately you have to do what makes money.

I have since stripped what I wanted from the field car (89 Iroc) and sold it for $400 recouping half of my purchase. Yes I still have the motor & trans. I have acquired my dad's 70 Camaro SS, which is a solid Arizona car & completely stripped out. So the 5.7 tpi, p600 procharger & intercooler, and my new transmission with shift kit & 2800 stall converter. I also have a 3.73 posi rear end & 255 l/hr fuel pump for it as well. and Yes I have true dual magna flow exhaust for this car already.

I know some people are going to say just use a carburetor; however, this is what I have to work with and I don't want to call up pops every time there is a carb issue.

With my new paintbooth finished, the Camaro is going to be rolled into that this coming week for stripping. The motor & heads are out getting cleaned out (due to a lot of sludge build up) & pressure tested.

I have done my homework on exhaust headers, For my tpi application and knowing that it will be dead at 5,000-5,600 rpm, I have determined a 1 & 3/4 header to be the best for this range.

I was planning on keeping the stock heads; however, having some better springs and maybe 1.6 roller rockers? Or would a cam with better duration and more lift be ample. I don't want to create to much lift. Would a GM hot cam or just the comp 1.6 roller rockers be sufficent? What are people's experiences with those?

Also, since this car clearly doesn't have a computer. What are people's experiences with megasquirt computers? Or should I just get a stock one from a MAP car with the S&P (street and performance) wiring kit?

p.s. I will post some pictures later for a complete start to finish for this car.
