Installing an intercooler
Do you guys think it is necessary to take the nose of the car off to install an intercooler?

Re: Installing an intercooler
Depends on the IC, but if you plan to install it like procharger does its not necessary.

I installed one vertically on a 92 RS and it didn't require removing the front bumper.

YOu can do it without. With it off, its easier but depends on the size and where your mounting. Using the crash bar for support or closer to the rad?

Re: Installing an intercooler
You must have removed some stuff in order to expose your IC like that correct? I was able to get 31x12x3 in there without much hassle at all. Mine isn't exposed like that though.

Re: Installing an intercooler
i had the nose off the car to pull the motor and get the nose repainted. I cut the crash bar out between the factory frame rails and then welded in brackets to bolt in this intercooler.
factory grille/fog lights and etc have been removed. Probably be best to remove nose to cut that crash bar out. Not sure how easy it would be to cut that out with nose in place

If I don't remove that section of the crash bar how effective do you think my IC will be up to around 15 psi of boost? I will probably be running meth/water injection anyway. I'm hoping that I will still see enough air flow to keep IAT under control. What do you think?

Re: Installing an intercooler
Should get some air flow thru there. These cars do see alot of air flow up from underneath. It also would be helpful if you add an air dam in front of the intercooler to bring air up thru the intercooler and the air can channel back to the radiator.
If the intercooler is big enough it should be fine for 15psi.
