You stepped up to the 2-Litre Coke bottles now I see, ehh....?

It's coming out sweet bro, what did you use to polish the valve covers....?

Edit: Remember to put the PCV valve on the drivers side valve cover....

so that's what they look like...

i did this yesterday took some time and thank god the wife is 800 miles away because i don't have a sheet metal break but the dining room table with a few clamps and a extra long prybar did the job... i can't show those pics due to my JOINT FILING status having it's perks.

sorry think this posted incorrectly...

ENGINE LOOKS SWEET! nice job

Re: 89 Iroc Sbc400 TPI Megasquirt Single GT45 5-600 rwhp build

mega squirt is here now its a ms 2 v3.0 not a 3.57 like the seller told me,sent him a pm,
the harness that came with it was a lil messy so i redid it.

even not being a 3.57 its still the same ecm just not surface mount stuff and if i want to add stuff i might have to solder a few things instead of moving some jumpers around

still waiting on 1000 cc injectors
turbo should be here by friday

You got ways to go before firing it up though, no? That TPI setup was off of an '89, so you need to elongate the center bolt holes to get it to seat. Which intercooler are you planning on running, the same one that I am ($100.00 ebay one)....?

Re: 89 Iroc Sbc400 TPI Megasquirt Single GT45 5-600 rwhp build

31x12x4 inch core

tpi has already been modified to fit the heads

harness is made for the ms unit already
alls i need to do is drop in the new tpi gaskets plug in the injectors and turn the key, going to drive it n/a till the turbo gets here this friday and i cant actually install the turbo till i have injectors here, so by mid next week i should have everything
50mm wastegate w/10 psi spring
intercooler
100# injectors
2x rfl bov's
and all the misc piping and flanges i need

then i just have to weld it all up

Re: 89 Iroc Sbc400 TPI Megasquirt Single GT45 5-600 rwhp build

megasquirt is wired unfortunatly i didnt relize i had the wrong iac and tps pigtials, not that it matters i have the right ones and i need to shorten up the wires for them anyway.

wires for the dizzy need to be shortened way up too

need to wire up the ignition bypass relay thats sitting on the heater box

power and ground wires are a lil long might trim them back or wait till i get the 5 inch downpipe in so i can make sure they are routed far enough away

also pictured is my fuel line feed line repair ive dcided to wait till my presision 65# injectors get here before i try to start the car, no sence in putting it all together to have to take it apart and risk tearing the intake gaskets when my injectors will b here saturday

my megasquirt is already setup for gm hei i got mine used and the guy was using it on a sbc

u dont need that hei kit, the mod involves 2/3 jumper wires that u can make from 2/3 pieces of extra wire

if u get a v3.0 ms i can take pics of mine and show u were to put the jumper wires

Good deal, I mentioned that above because you were looking for pigtails in my thread and I thought you had the wrong harness. The kit is cheap enough to buy if I decide to go with the MSII, and the video for the mod is here....;

It's gotta be cleaned, and you would have to swap linkages from your stocker to the LT1 because the throttle cable is different (wrap-around). Post a picture of the MSII harness connectors for the TPI and IAC, I want to see if they will connect to it....

Re: 89 Iroc Sbc400 TPI Megasquirt Single GT45 5-600 rwhp build

I am running megasquirt on my TPI as well. It was a thing of beauty to see everything working after a lot of hard work. (megasquirt was my first real soldering project) With regards to the HEI ignition: Are you running direct coil control or are you using the stock ignition module? I am running the direct coil control. Here is a hint for you. With the advance set at the required 26.3 deg the distributer (body) is set to nearly no advance. Simply put: the coil connectors off the driver side of the coil are nearly perpendicular to the center line of the car. Once I figured this out, my motor started up consistantly.

If I were to go that route, I would obviously be starting from a carbureted application in which was converted to TPI. Other than the pigtails for the sensors and injectors I have no harness whatsoever, so what would be needed in my situation. Is it just a matter of getting the MSII unit, MSII HEI input kit and MSII Relay Board...?

The LT1 throttle body bolts right up, but the sensors on it won't bolt onto your throttle body though. I can have that throttle body polished and looking brand spanking new in a matter of hours lol. I was going to use it w/the LT1 intake conversion I did, but after all that work I did to the TPI though....

This is a rather complicated question that needs some more information to give a "short" asnwer. This post may be able to get things rolling.

The MSII HEI input kit I think is only for the 3.57 (already assembled) board. The reason why I went with the direct coil control is because it was the most simple wiring and system control. Direct coil control (with the relay board) only requires 3 wires. Coil + (comes from the existing wire on the car) Coil - (goes to the relay board) and One wire from the VR sensor. And thats it. (See also the megamanual page on direct coil control.)

What distributer (and module if any) do you have? The megamanual has a page dedicated to how to wire different HEI modules. The DIYautotune.com page also has a write up on the 8 pin distributer.
http://www.diyautotune.com/tech_arti...part3-nova.htm

When converting from a carb, you will also need a fuel pump that can supply suficient fuel to the rails & fuel lines than can handle the flow and pressure.

I suppose I ought to start a thread on my TPI/Megasquirt setup (in progress). Let me know, and I will start it this week.

For my application I purchased the MSII v3.00 (build it yourself), Relay board, Relay Cable, and the 12' of wire to build your own harness. (all from DIYautotune.com).

The fuel pump(s) are taken care of, twin in tank walbro's. The engine is running an '86 HEI w/7-pin module. The HEI input kit (jumpers) is also for both MS-II and MS-I. My main concern was the harness, as I do not have any stock relay's. The only wiring in reference to the fuel injection, as of right now, are the individual pigtails for each individual sensor. Setting up the wiring of the Megasquirt won't be a problem at all, as I have been installing ECM's for years, I just needed to know what the entire setup consists of (to get it up and running) as well as what it entails because the price for everything needed from a carbureted application just seems to keep escalating upward....

rob u just need a few relays , one for the fuel pump, one for the fan(s)
the only extra wiring is the 12V feeds to the relays

Re: 89 Iroc Sbc400 TPI Megasquirt Single GT45 5-600 rwhp build

Project89 is correct.
Sorry I interpreted your question wrong.
I went with the relay board because (for me) it eases the wiring install and consolidates the additional fuses and relays at one location. It also protects the ECM from any voltage spikes. It is fairly simple to use the stock ignition module, especially if you have the relay board. I chose to bypass the module so I could use the FIdle relay for another purpose. (coolant fan or TCC lock up). In my opinion using the Ignition module with megasquirt is the same as having a control system control a control system to control a device. (convolution intended)

does this prevent trying to find a hot while cranking signal with some hei modules (I've got mine wired into the p/n circuit in the center console somewhere, don't remember right now but I'm rearranging in there and going to loose some of that wiring)? Is there a good description of it somewhere?

Re: 89 Iroc Sbc400 TPI Megasquirt Single GT45 5-600 rwhp build

.... which diagram is the above for, all of them? How does the Megasquirt compensate for knock w/out an ESC module, and/or any knock sensor feed? I'm assuming it has a built in MAP sensor because I don't see one. Where can I download the software (I'm assuming it's free) to adjust my fuel and timing. Megasquirt is open source, right?

The diagram above is the most generic setup.
Megasquirt can control timing and advance internally. It has provisions to receive a knock sensor signal. The knock signal (from the stock knock module) is sent to MS via a spare input. Once that input is detected (and various other conditions met) MS retards the timing. Apparently, this is in the prototype phase (per the megamanual website). As far as I understand, without the ESC module, (and knock sensor) MS cannot retard timing by itself.
see: http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/knock.htm
The MAP sensor is built right onto the board.
You can get the software from this link:
http://www.diyautotune.com/softwarelinks.htm
The Megatune software is open source.

Interesting. I'm liking the whole idea behind the parallel installation....

I noticed you have a non-CSI plenum. Be warned you need to drill a hole or something for the IAC valve. I spent 2 weeks trying to start mine without the IAC being there and unable to figure out why it didn't work.

Yes, the very back of his throttle body should have a vacuum line (pathway) cut into it leading from the IAC valve to the plenum orifice, whereas the back of the LT1 throttle body relies on that "triangle" cut in between the orifice. I noticed that at the top of this page when he posted a picture of his setup, and he definitely needs to drill a hole into the plenum to allow the IAC to do it's job....

Wow, first time I've caught up on this thread. Nice to see 3 boosted TPI cars being built at the same time!

Probably should get mine posted eventually, except it's not a thirdgen, it may not be TPI soon and I'm getting no where in a hurry with it

Post it up, we're all feeding off of each other's builds and using them as incentive....

I just realized you were talking about your car as being the third boosted TPI car lol. What is that build thread of yours doing over in the TPI section, bring it on over to the power adder section so we can monitor each other's progress. I would have liked to see how far you could have pushed that boosted 305, but it's better that you swapped to the 350 though....

I really want to see how that fits, I have the 3" version of one of those that is really undersized for what I want to do but I just didn't see how the 4" would go in the space that I have on the TA...
