More Vaccum before Boost???

I just started my D1SC 383 this weekend in my 92RS. I was pulling about 12-15 PSI of VACUUM at idle. When i run it up to about 2000 RPM's the gauge pulls to about 20 PSI of VACUUM....When will it build BOOST???? I understand there is no load on the motor, its in park. I have the gauge hooked to the front vaccum port under the carb, in the same T-fitting as the surge valve (which isn't closing because the vacuum keeps increasing).

Is this normal?? And when can i expect to see the gauge actually read positive PSI (Boost)??

It will show boost when the throttle blades aren't a restriction.

just sitting in park increasing rpm by the throttle isnt gonna show any boost. go drive it, punch it, then you will see it

Ok! I know a hell of alot of air was coming out of that surge valve. I just thought maybe my engine really breathes well and it wasn't gonna go into boost until a certain RPM.

OMG!!!!! I got it to go into boost yesterday on my first drive down the block. Well i now have a HUGE traction issue...If this doesnt run well into the 10's theres a problem. Now i just gotta do a little carb tweaking and get the right plugs in this motor next (time to do a search to see what everyone is using).
