What's a good nitrous kit/ ignition box setup?

Looking at getting an ignition box for my tpi 350 forged with 10.5 comp., cam and accel dist with supercoil, heddman headers. Plan on running nitrous in the near future. Probably 150-200 shot. I am looking at mallory's d6 6865m hyfire. Is this a good purchase? Thanks for any input. Jeremy

msd is the hottest thing on the market, nobody can compete. i would buy msd digital 6 and timing control box (part number 8680) and you need to have msd distributor with this ofcourse

So I can't use my brand new distributor? I thought they made most of these universal to plug into your coil.

MSD has plenty of competition... except maybe in sheer volume of advertising.

You don't need a timing control, there's a single-stage retard built in to the Digital 6. Works just fine with non-MSD distributors, too.

I thought it had a retard option with the box but I read on jegs and it didn't say anything about it. So what have other companies done to compete? I never see any quality accessories from any other brand that msd doesn't make better and easier to use. I don't hear of any performance guys recommending anything else either

Nitrous is no place to be spending money on cheap ignition parts. Msd for my vote

Re: What's a good nitrous kit/ ignition box setup?

They are all about the same...

I ran mallory hyfire VII (685 box) on my nitrous motor and still use it on my twin turbo motor with no issues.

Mallory and MSD both have good kits that integrate well into the 80's HEI setups and if you are still TPI then they have the kits and wiring adapters to make it easy for you to control nitrous.

Mallory 685 I liked because it had built in window switch and timing retard function. I wired my nitrous to the window switch to control the rpm i wanted it on and off at, and also wired it to the timing retard function so I could run FULL timing on my motor when off the bottle, but when the spray was on, i had whatever timing I wanted pulled.

Much easier to have a timing retard function like that so you dont have to set your chip to 1 value and sacrifice off the bottle performance. The 685 also had boost functions, two step limiters, rev limiter, startup retard, etc. Good box. MSD probably has something very similar

EDIT for what its worth, i'm still on the stock 89 TPI distributor but with a upgraded ignition coil and ignition module in the dizzy. I dont remember what brands those are. I got an MSD map sensor too so i kinda mixed and matched but it all works.

Thanks for the replies guys! That is exactly why I was looking at the mallory. I liked the setup and price seemed reasonable. I really appreciate all of the info. I hope God blesses all of you for helping.
