Re: ebay twin turbo kit

I personally know some people who have bought turbo Kits from ebay, For the most part they are good as long as you dont beat on them. That kit as far as how it will fit. I cannot tell you. The headers look similar to the ones i am working on along with some other people that encouraged me to do so. ( summit racing employees) I would say for the price it is a good way to start and i would keep in mind. There will be some fabrication on some point of your project

Re: ebay twin turbo kit

Why would you turbocharge a small block and not beat on it?

I've been told that the driver's side manifold in that kit doesn't fit at all without serious modification, and it's missing a bunch of other pieces you'll need.

Re: ebay twin turbo kit

There is a difference between "beating" on it and Driving it like a race car. Drive it hard is more than fine but this also means you take care of it. such as changing oil earlier. For the headers, the drive sides iv seen usually fit, tho it is a rather tight fit. Where im from we have the steel valley super nationals, if you guys arent familiar with it, its a great time. Lots of old classics and hot rods. Tho there are alot of ricers in the mix ( usually someone putting a turbo on a talon or something). Every year youll see at least one of these puupies pulled over and broke down mostly bc they beat on them and do not take care of them. Dnt get me wrong id drive the hell outta it BUT id take care of it and youd be fine.

Re: ebay twin turbo kit

changing the oil wont keep a cheap header from cracking, chinese wastegate from leaking/breaking, or a chinese turbo from flying apart.

Re: ebay twin turbo kit

Yes, there is a difference between beating on it and driving it hard, but WRT to a turbo manifold there really isn't. No amount of oil changing will make it last any longer

Re: ebay twin turbo kit

Theres plenty of people who run cheap/ebay gear around hear. tho it is not the best way to go it will give you a good start. I do not know many turbo'd sbc's but i do work with a handful of diesel's some have bought the top notch brand parts other cheaper ebay things. If they can get away for a while running 45 plus psi i think you'd be fine. As for the header problem. There is no way to tell how long they will last. Yet almost for sure you will need to fab one up or find someone who can. All i am trying to say is that the ebay kit will help you (especially if youre not sure on what you are doing). I'D much rather see a cheap setup blow up than a nice turbonetics go out.

Re: ebay twin turbo kit

Do it right the first time and the only time.

Make sure you know what you are doing if you buy an ebay kit. If your a nub you will fail.
