So I have read throw a lot of forms. An I have not read of a single person with a 177 Weiand Supercharger in a 3rd gen. An commenting on what type of hood there using and the clearance. A lot of 144's.
I'm running a SHP Dart block turned in to a 421cid. Currently I have a Weiand 7532 intake with heights of (Front)3.63" (Back)4.56" and a 5" tall K&N air filter. All under a "big block hood" An from what I can see with the hood I'm running, there really is almost another 4-6" left with head room.
The Hood http://www.americansportscar.com/pro...maro-big-block
Ok the math.
Weiand 7532 (intake) (Front)3.63" (Back)4.56"
Weiand 177 (Supercharger) (Front)9.5625" (Back)10.9375"
The difference (Front)5.9325" (Back)6.3775"
So I would think if I went to a smaller air filter I should be ok?
An does any one run a 177 and with what hood?
I'd almost bet it won't fit under that hood. I run a 4" cowl with the lowest profile air cleaner I could find...and it's so clse the wing nut put a small dent on the inner hood panel. - And I'm not running a 177.....
Double the cost of fuel systems, a extra $1000 for the supercharger, Less street able. I really don't have a daily driver so it's ether the 82 Monte Carlo lowrider (yea I know a little different then the Camaro) or the supercharged 90 Camaro.
How ever I have always thought about doing a 8-71.
"So since you're cutting the hood anyway, why only a 177 then? Why not a 6-71 or 8-71 and be done with it? "
I can't see it fitting. I have a 142 and it would be a hard fit for it.
Holley's website states the 177 is taller than the 142.
I took an old RS hood and just cut a hole and used a scoop.
(depends on personal taste with that though)
I attached the sheet from holley so you can measure it
Dimensions of 177 on page 12
I've seen that pdf. before. It seems that the 177 is only a few inches taller then the 142.
So I'm just going to take my chances and if I have to put a hood scoop then I guess it's going to look bad ***.
Also with the Hood I have it seems that with a 177 I can have just a scoop like this one. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MRG-6658/
An not have the belts or any thing sticking out. How bad is it if you drive a hood scoop in the rain?
I haven't had any problems in the rain with it.
I've driven in lots of bad weather and no problems yet. (2 years so far)
I do cover it when I'm not using it.
and yes yes that scoop draws the eyes of the cops.
less than 15 mins after I put that car on the road I was pulled over. (no joke)
(warning for license plate sticker being in the wrong place)
Well cops already don't like me. A Camaro with 3" Flowmasters, wide body and a custom hood doesn't really help. So I think some butter fly hood scoop couldn't really make it any worse.
Now I just have to get pasted the hole can't run serpentine belts thing.
im going thru the same thing with my 144. im looking at the spectre sheetmetal plenum which is only 2" off the carb and i "might" make it under a 4"cowl . ill find out after i save up for a tranny. then ill save for my hood
The issue might be resolved, but I couldn't get any visuals when I was doing my search so I wanted to help the next brother out. Here's some pictures from a video I found on youtube of a 177.
a 144 will fit under a 4 inch cowl with about 1-2 inches of space between the hood and carb, a 177 wont fit under a 4 inch cowl with an air cleaner, now way, no how,
i refused to cut a hole in my 700.00 hood so i put my 144 in something else
