Welded Manifolds- how fast

I know that there are a few people here (and in other places) that have run turbo flanges welded to stock exhaust manifolds.
  • How fast have people gone with them?
  • How fast do you think you can go?
  • Where did you put the wastegate flange?
(I just had a nutty idea that I just might try...)

One look at stock Syclone/Typhoon turbo plumbing and your mind will be put at ease. That said, I don't know any real world numbers that people have achieved with such things. My opinion is that using a decent design stock manifold and good flange fabrication would support around 600 hp.

That is essentially what the Gale Banks kit is, there is nothing really special about the exhaust manifolds that his kit employs, and they've been brought to well over 1000 horsepower for years....

Re: Welded Manifolds- how fast

Flipped factory corvette headers, no definitive numbers because I'm still tuning but I've maxed out the 36lb injectors at just under 10# boost and there is easily more in the combo. That'll be it for the season since the car leans 10degrees to the right and has a bent and cracked frame, nothing I did One day soon I'll get off my lazy *** and start a thread on the build.

What's wrong with the sy/ty setup? it's a bit hard to work around but the plumbing is actually pretty decent and flows OK...

Just throwing this out there, not all manifolds are created equally so be careful which ones you use. I would start out with something like the Vortec 350 (I'm wanting to say that's what they are) as the ports are HUGE compared to the other set I have here.

How fast have people gone with them?
3650lb, 108mph, 15%loss => 440BHP
modified TPI exh manifolds, worn 355ci, 882 heads, 216/216 cam, LT1 intake, no IC, no water/alky, 10 PSI, twin T3-.63A/R - 60 trim CW

How fast do you think you can go?
Biggest problem it has is the worn rings & bores wanting to cause detonation when a normal amount of boost timing is run. I think with good sealing there is another 30HP in it. With an IC or water/alky add another 30HP. In the end, I would say maxed out it could make 600HP with more boost. The complete combo was built based on maxing out at 600BHP.

Where did you put the wastegate flange?
internal wastegates in the turbine

For the amount of time it takes to make the manifolds I would try it. If they didn't make the HP you want then sell them local or ebay. You really can't lose.

Nothing wrong.. that was my point, it works great but the crossover is tiny.. and those trucks have gone pretty fast on stock plumbing.
