Re: Finally My 383 N/A buld turned turbo Part 2

The new turbo cam or the old 383 cam? Both are by Bauer. New one is in the motor, degreed and ready to run. Its big. Old cam I sold to a local guy along with my 383 shortblock AND my old AFR heads. Basically has my old combo. He has yet to run it as far as I know. Was hoping to see what it would do in a vette.

Is that 233/233 cam close to any other cam that is made by a major manufacturer? I've heard you say it was a custom grind. ...You don't have to answer that if you can't or don't want to...
I'm sure I can find something thats close.

Comp Cams magnum high lift #3111 lobe, 286/230 deg .560" with 1.5 rockers. Be very close in lift curve. 152 at .200" while mine was 151 at .200". Put that on a 112lsa, close to a 110-112 ICL, almost near straight up.

The 3122 is abit bigger. 290/236 .570 with 1.5 rocker.

Comp Cams Thumper lobe 3024 is kinda close. 291/235, 150 at .200". .555" lift with 1.6

Comp Extreme energy 3316 lobes abit larger. 288/236 157 at .200", .555 with 1.6 rocker.

Anything in that range would work ok on a 383 and milder 400 builds looking for not more than 6200 rpm or so and not much more.

ya or na? read good and bad. Blow through makes more power but harder to tune, box makes it so i dont need a blow through and is easy to tune, little less HP. Seeing either way i go, am looking at over $500 with my quick fuel carb. I wouldnt mind losing some Ponys with a better streetable car. Opinions?

Hoping to get the heads sold in march which is when tear down begins. Still debating if i want to do my own Headers, or go with the Block hugger headers and work off that. More concerned right now what i should do with the carb

Either way the carb is seeing boost pressure so you are technically blowing thru either way...atleast I cant see any other way you could do it. The carb will make or break the driveability so spend money there. The enclosure shape/design will dictate air distribution. If you get a sharp 90 deg type setup its gonna have crappy distribution and make WOT tuning a night mare. Need to run a good style hat with a high rise as possible. Need some section of straight to allow air to fill the area and straighten out flow before hitting the carb.

This makes it hard to fit under hood tho unless you have a big cowl. Definately an advantage. Smooth radius turn and some straight inches after the turn before the entering top of carb

Your goal of high 10's low 11's can easily be accomplished with an enclosure box, and a Holley 650 carburetor w/vacuum secondaries. Tuning is a breeze w/vacuum secondaries, and streetability is so much more enjoyable. You don't need to spend all of this money on heads and blowthru carb, the money needs to be spent on the rotating assembly to take the abuse, as ported irons, single plane, Holley 650 w/vacuum secondaries and enclosure box will easily get you to your goal with a decent camshaft and fuel supply...

Trying to save time and possible money as my fab skills take forever lol Wanted to copy this design alittle. Forgot whose build it was but he has the block hugger headers.

Will this work? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HOK-2100HKR/?rtype=10

Turbo will be either in front of the water pump or in passenger tray.

Re: Finally My 383 N/A buld turned turbo Part 2

Head choice as i am 1 week away from tear down and selling the AFR's.

I think i have made my mind up with going with DART. I have confirmed with my engine builder that he will do the port and polish work on them.

Stick with Aluminum or go with Cast?

180, 200, 215, 230cc? i was thinking 200, but i dont know

With selling the AFR's, i should have enough funds left over to buy beehive springs ( If need be, i dont know, orr? ), and have the port and polish work done and break out even.

Also Tired of sweating over the header/manifold issue. Am biting the bullet and buying 10secgoal headers and just be done with it!

If any of you have friends who needs a nice cam let me know i managed to sell the heads/headers but everyone think my cams to WILD. Though it seems tame to me

If you use my cam, I'd stick to a regular double spring. Small diameter like AFR 8019 or Patriot Extreme Golds to be safe. I dont really like beehives.

I like aluminum heads for weight savings.

Re: Finally My 383 N/A buld turned turbo Part 2

So the motors out and torn apart. Everything looks good besides carbon buildup, really bad looking spark plugs, seems I was running off of 7 cylinders. Quite interesting but oh well. Cylinder walls look brand new still though only had about 1,000 miles on this build . I measured the piston to the deck and it was 008. Engine builder said 76cc should drop me 1 compression. Any clue where I should be at now?

ORR when I get back to NJ next week am sending payment to ya
