maf to map

Im new to the tpi on these cars but am familiar with other fuel injections. What im trying to find is how you guys are swapping to a map from maf without a aftermarket ecu??? I am wanting to turbo the car in the future but right now just getting it dependable and swapping a t56 in. Thanks Stephen

Your 1985 has just about the worst computer GM ever put in a Camaro. You can install a 1990-1992 TPI Camaro computer along with a "chip from a GM Syclone" derivative. The wiring harness would need to be modified a little and the ECM connector needs some wires moved around.

Re: maf to map

Yep, exactly what I did. 89 MAF to 91-92 MAP ecm. Kept my wiring harness but repinned to the back of the 91-92 ecm. Need an extra connector for the ECM since 91-92 uses 3 while 86-89 maf uses 2. It was pretty easy and straight forward but kinda a PITA to bend over plugging and unplugging wires into the ecm.

Had to take the MAF wiring out and put in MAP sensor wires and run to the ECM thru the firewall. Not hard to do but depends on where you put things.

Re: maf to map

You can use the MAF wires for the MAP sensor. No need to remove and install new wires.

Re: maf to map

Yeah true you could reuse that wiring. I mounted my map half the distance from the original MAF so I still needed to pull those wires back down the harness to clean it all up. Just have to unpin the MAF wires and move to the right spot on the 730 ecm

Theres a swap article here, but theres a few more than just a few pins.
