I put a b&m blower on a 305 with a peanut cam

Alright, i have a question for those of you so inclined to have the ability to select a proper camshaft. I have a good idea on a cam but would like to hear some other opinions.

I have a 305 camaro motor, rebuilt .030 all stock, i had to put the motor in my truck when i lost oil pressure in the original 305. i had a b&m 144 blower i got off craigslist for a steal, and went ahead to install it. I used a holley 750 vaccum secondary, nice headers and dual 2 1/4' pipes with quiet mufflers. It runs awesome, i honestly have netted 20mpg freeway. This is due to the fuel effecicient 305 heads. Porblem is all i have is torque, the truck feels like i could pull down a oak tree but after 2500 rpm i dont have any horsepower.

I want to order a custom camshaft with new lifters and springs, and roller rocker arms, lightweight pushrods in an effort to make a nice street truck.

Its an 86 gmc, 4000lbs gross weight, 3:08 rear end, brand new th350 from a 78 so no locking brand new converter, supercharger makes 5lbs of boost typically and 6-7 lbs foot to the floor on freeway. Can somebody please reccomend a super bad *** blower cam for my combination, want to spin 5000rpms, and make horsepower. thanks bye

IIRC, a good bloer cam would be something with a single pattern like a 218/218 duration @50 and with those heads u have ,you may wanna keep the lift below .460/.460. Also to keep a flatter power curve, i would look for a LSA of 112 or higher

your peanut cam is like 179/184 duration @50. Very small cam

Summit K1103 IMO. 204/214@.050, you can use your stock valvetrain just fine and it has a wider (114) LSA that will behave well with the blower. It's also split duration which is a good idea with a set of stock heads and a blower, gotta get the exhaust out. Either that or look for a nitrous grind of similar to slightly larger (I'd be looking for 210-215@.050 intake duration on the higher side.) Also expect to need to pulley up to maintain boost pressure if you cam up.

Your only targeting 5000-RPM with your stock heads, so overlap really isn't that big of a deal in your case. I would go with a 218/218 @ 110-LSA Lunati grind. If you can port the heads a little bit to help increase velocity, then definitely do so...

thanks, great suggestions i like all of them, i have the smaller diameter pulley so if it comes to loss of boost pressure ill put it back on. i suppose ill get a few different cams and try them out individually next weekend. As for the heads, i will pull them back off to have some better valve seats put in them and some light bowl blending done by yours truly, may work on the quench area a little too. Ill take pics

how about bigger /higher lift springs while ur at it? You will have a broader choice of cams then

Roots blower? I'd run a split duration. Something like a 210-220 but thats just me. 5000 rpm on a 305 doesnt need much more than 210 deg. Hell, stock 207 deg L98 cam peaks at 5100 rpm on a L98 with a stealth ram.

Call Mike Jones at jonescams.com or Bullet Cams to get a recommendation.
