tpi forced induction

I am still working on a project motor for my firebird and am trying to think what is the best forced induction on a tpi? cause they have so much low end that would you want something to just kick in on the high end or? also i was thinkin of possibly doing like a m112 how people have done m90 on the sides of the engine. but would a m112 or cetrifugal be better? i just got new headers so not lookin to much at turbo.

Re: tpi forced induction

If you want to "extend" the usable RPM then a centrifugal is probably best. The way they work the boost comes on at higher RPM so when you're at the point of running out of steam on the TPI the fact the boost is still climbing would help. The roots would likely provide instant torque which would be fun in its own way though. If you can fabricate, the M112 would probably be a less costly option but the Centri would likely be more of a bolt in.

Honestly though, any way of cramming air down a TPI would immensely improve the power capacity of the intake. There are a few people in articles getting 4-500hp out of them but at the same time it's with lots of aftermarket parts usually. Personally I'd think that past a certain point that boost would be a cheaper HP/$ alternative than aftermarket TPI parts just due to that wall.

I would honestly go centrifugal and be done with it. Trust me, creating your own setup with the M90's can be very rewarding, but it's really not necessary, and will only slow you down in terms of fabrication. Get a Procharger D1SC and call it a day, and enjoy your summer...

Honestly after having a D1SC for so many years on my TPI engine I would say go with the m112 setup if you can make it work, turbo would be even better. Only reason I even crank up my boost is so I can make more in the low end which a twin screw would do even better at.

Re: tpi forced induction

Alright but the tpi also kinda helps with the low end torque and if you are running 60Ib injectors you must have a bit of boost. what psi and whats ur hp and maybe track times? Also I took off the ac so is there any centrifugal superchargers that fit in that bracket to replace the ac with?

When running TPI, that is all your really shooting for, that being torque. Even without the D1SC, there are tricks in creating more power under the curve simply by altering your valve events by advancing your cam timing. That, in conjunction with the D1SC, will give you monster torque. Remember that your running a 305, so boost pressure is higher in comparison to a 350 due to the smaller intake valves. Boost pressure is simply a resistance reading....

I was thinking today and would I be able to build or get a custom manifold for a m112 and work the throttle body on the m112 and use the maf off my current set up then get it tuned? Cause it almost seems like i can use any intake with the maf.
