Re: Here we go again. 87 Iroc-Z and a Small Turbo.

So i decided to take it out friday night for a shakedown run. So then my little brothers friend asked for me to take him on a test drive. So after that everyone wanted to be taken for rides. Through most of them i had a boost leak and was only making like 2-3 psi which i was happy about (because of the fact its not tuned). So after fixing the leak i took 2 more friends for rides. At that point i was seeing about 8-9 psi before i backed off the throttle

This is a before fixing the leak run.

This was after the fix

Hope they work and sorry for the chitty quality.

Re: Here we go again. 87 Iroc-Z and a Small Turbo.

Let me know when you can, we'll hit up New Park Brick Oven Pizza on Crossbay right off the Belt Parkway. Was never a big fan of Megasquirt, but I'll show how damn easy it is to tune with it. Using the tablet for the Shadow Logger is pretty sweet, I must admit, but getting Java to work with C will make it easy for other software, too. By the way, your turbo must spool incredibly fast with that a/r, it's should make for a pretty interesting Spring...

More like sleep sleep sleep. Been busy as usuall. Got this weekend off so im throw up a update. On a brighter note there no traction at all. Been driving it around doin some prelim shakedown runs. Car feel pretty good. Got to find a massive oil leak on the ps of the motor. Hoping it was all from the leaking.feed that i fixed.

... wait til you literally work that 305 like I did in conjunction with a turbo along with the right converter, traction will be next to impossible. I made a few suspension upgrades and tweaks and threw on some 275 DR's, and she started to finally bite off the line again. Looking forward to some more updates and vids though, and with that being said, get to the chopper!!!!!!

Yeah buddy. Right now i got to fix a few oil leaks that the boost made worst. Im blowin a lil smoke.under boost out the tailpipe(downpipe actually) atm. Also got set up the bo correctly. Still got to install a catch can for the oil. Im shocked how much power the thing makes untuned. Gonna be updating this weekend w some more pics. I should have just done a all out race car, it would have been easier to put together.

Be careful, don't lean it out too much. Before I started tuning the LV8 for boost on my old setup a few years back I wasn't getting any knock, but close inspection of the plugs showed I was pretty lean regardless what the WB was telling me. Did you check your plugs lately? Let's see some more pics...

Maybe Joe will create individual sticky threads that offer a compilation of these builds, like a turbo database individually consisting of LB9's, L98's, etc, because I'd like to throw up some information on mine but I don't want to start anymore threads. Yeah, I made a bone head move and traded in a very nice car and picked this one up. The insurance is freaking ridiculous, and I don't know if I want to keep investing in it because the money can go right to the house. I like it a lot, but am still having trouble launching it over 2500-RPM. Come April I might have my cousin trade me what I already have into it with him picking up the payments. This is why I told you to meet up with me by New Park Pizza, was gonna tell you ahead of time that I was bringing the GTA, but then show up with this lol...

I keep looking at your turbo, and I am saying to myself, hmm. Thinking about selling my Bullseye Turbo for one of them, that and the PTC converter, and try to recoup some of the expense. How do you like it bro, how does she spool with your gearing, and what RPM does she run out of breath... or does she?

Hey man great job on your build, but your playing with FIRE driving around hitting the gas like that without a tune!!!! But I'm pretty sure you know that already. If you keep doing that the little 305 will not last long for sure. Just my 2 cents though.

I got all the parts to fix the pcv sys etc. Turo stop leaking oil out the back seal after it broke in. Hopefully if this weekend holds up ill fix my issues and do some posts. Tuning and final dissasembly/re assembly is gonna be april may whem the.weather gets better overall.

I know, weather's been terrible lately. Today was awesome though, over 60-degrees. Yeah, definitely throw a check valve on the PCV hose if you haven't already, as well as the brake hose off of the plenum... last thing you'll want is to be pumping the brakes at over 100-mph after letting off after boost.

Off topic, but could you do me a favor? I don't frequent NY Third Gen as much as I should, but if your on there more than I am, could you keep an eye out for a set of C4 113 cylinder heads that might be for sale, bare or complete doesn't matter. There is absolutely nothing in the local boneyards, nor on craigslist...

There is a really low mile set of GMPP ZZ4 complete heads and ZZ4 cam for sale right now on Nythirdgen.com same as 113's. probably a bit better.

Was just checking it out. He has a whole entire package that he is selling, and although I am considering it now, I would need to offset the cost and sell the items that I don't need, which is just about everything but the heads lol. I already have the cam that I chose for the turbo build that came with new lifters, as well as comp roller rockers and pushrods. The one thing that I would in fact need though he doesn't list, and that is better valve springs, unless he just forgot to mention that he had them. Definitely going to consider it now though, thanks for looking out...

Hang in there!

First time I glanced at these 3 pages! Lots of work and i'm glad it's working for you. Road time makes it all worthwhile even if it leaves you stranded a few times... goodluck tuning, etc.

Re: Here we go again. 87 Iroc-Z and a Small Turbo.

Gonna try to post a few pics from my phone. This may get a little retarted.

Lets start with some lower intercooler brackets. These bolt into 2 holes where the lower air deflector bolts into. They will be rubber coated for the final install. They teamed up with the upper brackets are pretty strong for being a simple design. Almost shook the car off the jackstands while i was doing a strength test.

I dun oooppsed and labeled the ds the ps. They are not simular.

Here's a few shots of the rear mount battery setup. No trick hideway setup here. The positive cable runs up through the right side inner sail panel, then under the passenger side rocker trim molding/carpet area. From there once it reaches the front of the passenger seat it cuts across towards the trans tunnel and through the firewall, up the back of the tranny, up the block right to the alternator.

Negative connection.

Re: Here we go again. 87 Iroc-Z and a Small Turbo.

It came out nice. Left some extra cable for a kill switch when track season begins. Got a few more misc. pics to upload.

This is all from an fittings direct.com, decent stuff at a decent price. I had an issue with one fitting just stripping outright. I emailed them with some pics and the sent a new one right away. The one they sent is leaking slowly. Lol. Managable leak but a leak.

Oil drain. I hate -10 a bit after this.

A bit of home depot isle 6 racing.

This happened a few weeks ago. This was the fitting that went horribly wrong.

Gonna take a break. Have a few more to post up.

Re: Here we go again. 87 Iroc-Z and a Small Turbo.

Weather is picking up, should be seeing upper 40's lower 50's soon. Just started on my build/change thread too, so we should get those updates in even faster now with the weather finally getting better. Wanna see Eric (TPI-Formula-350) win March COTM, too, represent New York kid...

The MAF is located right before the pipe leading to the throttle body. Its after the red bov. Why you asking?

Also weather is getting better so time to finish up the build.

Yes, weather has been freaking beautiful, essentially skipping spring and literally getting hit with summer weather, we hit 80 plus degrees today by me. Definitely time to wrap up our turbo 305 builds though, so full speed ahead. Hoping to see both our cars on the dyno soon...

Re: Here we go again. 87 Iroc-Z and a Small Turbo.

Just a quick update. I did not forget about this thread. Between the long winter, work and my home pc getting screwed up I have been slacking.

So far i have put 10k miles on the car since I got up and running christmas eve. It still got a long way to go yet but by july 17/18 its comming off the road hopefully for a month to do some serious work that the car has needed.

I will try to make a quick update with a few random pics later tonight but for now heres a quick vid of the 305 madness.
