how much money to put together a rear mount turbo?
I'm new to turbos and don't know much about them. Im wanting to know about the cost to put a rear mount under my truck. I have a ton of room to deal with. Just not sure what size turbo ill need for under 10lbs. Any help on parts and cost or places to go to read up would be great!

just as much if not more than a front mounted turbo because of the scavenge pump (does not equal cheap bilge pump) and as such a crappy compromise and not the way to do it.

I have the same view as Twin_turbo.. Rear mounts have their place, but it would only be an option to me on a vehicle where front mounting is not possible. The main reason I prefer front mount is to eliminate the variable of a scavenge pump which can (and will) fail at the least desirable opportunity. Parts cost would be similar of course, except for a scavenge pump as mentioned above. With that in mind, here is a page I made showing the costs to get my stock TPI turbocharged to 12.5 psi using cheap parts where acceptable (ebay turbo, etc):

STS exclusively makes a rear mount turbo kit. It allows to keep engine bay temps lower to not need an intercooler. Check out their website. www.ststurbo.com
You could build a protective bracket if that was a worry.
I have this book and you should buy this book. It will give you plenty of information to get started.

I question why the whole kit is so cheap. But if you're comfortable with it, buy it and have your local performance shop install it.

Re: how much money to put together a rear mount turbo?
I have a front mount and a scavenge pump lol no worries here
I am likely going to do one on my 99 trans am, simple rear mount something like 70-72 mm and only 450-500 whp on stock ls1. Need to decide if i want a set of manifolds or use my long tubes already on car but heat is very helpful in spooling a rear mount and longtubes lose alot of heat. Spool has been noted to be better/quicker on stock manifold cars.
My car also has a 3" catback and alot of guys like 2.5" on mild builds also for spool
But i know that ls1 will not have a problem spooling a t4 p trim or even q trim exhaust in a .96 ar 70-72 mm single. My 401 sbc spools 2 at 3800 or so. My trans am has 3200 stall and i want power in 2500-3000 to help 60' off footbrake. Build 3-4 lbs off footbrake will be all i want on stock 10 bolt in a heavy car
But basically i dont think it will cost much. Magnum turbo by master power, 750 bucks or so. Ebay gt45 may be an option as well and lots cheaper. Turbo size and price will depend on the motor combo but most 305-350 L98 based motors with mild mods will spool 62-70 mm singles very fast and make all the power the internals will handle.
Best scavenge pump out is said to be turbowerks exa pump which is 400 bucks. I have this and its nice.
Then you need to splice turbo into the factory or aftermarket catback. Flange and adapter piping. Few bucks for that. Bigger cost in making support brackets to hang turbo. Buy some steel L channel or rods/flat bar whatever. Maybe even aluminum and bolt it in.
Then ofcourse getting 2.5" cold side piping to front and all the couplers. Less than 200 i am thinking in mild steel exhaust pipe to run cold side. I have done full exhausts for about that much.
10-15 ft of oil supply line, basically -4 an should work tapped into rear block china wall. Then return, with pump -6 to -8 should work. Think pump recommended minimum of -6 on pressured return side but -8 on supply side. Id have to check. AN line can be pricey. 150-250 here with fittings depending what you get
If mild boost you wont need an intercooler but thats optional. Fit one if you can.
I fully expect to do mine for under 2 grand depending which turbo i buy. Since 4th gen back ends are similar to thirdgen, it will apply to thirdgens same way
