BBC 454 With a HX50
BBC 454 With a HX50
I've been searching and searching for a straight answer, i have a HX50 i bought sometime back, and i wanted to know if it would be ideal on my 454, im going to order a forge bottom end kit and ect, i didn't want to go extreme with it, looking for a little fun on the side, any info with a BBC with a HX50 would be greatly appreciated.

i think you mean an hx52, honestly on a bbc in single form it will be too small. you will need at least 2 of them if you are set on this turbo.
i know the hx40 came with 2 different housings and 2 different blade configurations, one being better thann the other in terms of airflow capabilities. Do a little research and see if there are different forms of the hx52 and see what you really have!

In reality, they it is too small for a single and too big for twins, you would be better suited with hx 40s in twin configuration. They are flow 60 to 65 lbs per min a piece and in twin form thats good for 1250 wheel hp.
What you could do is have the turbo fed off of one head only, this will get rid of any backpressure issues and the hx52 can make your 600hp and more to the tires. As you can imagine your biggest problem will be fitting that big turbo in the engine compartment with a bbc.
Good luck!
I came from the dsm world and used these monster turbos on little 2.0's, so when it comes to holsets i know a LOT.
And to make sure a holset survives is proper draining, you want at minumum a 12an drain, 14an being ideal

I have never heard of an hx50
There is hx35, hx40,h1c,hx52,hx60
Could you take a picture of the holset tag on the turbo?

learn something new everyday lol, i would imagine it would be very similar in size compared to a hx52 and the previous comment about feeding it off of 4 cylinders would still apply.
every 1 lb per min of airflow= 10 wheel hp cabability of the turbo(sometimes a little more) so if a 6 blade hx40 can flow 65lb/min then the hx50 will be more than enough for your goal.

Re: BBC 454 With a HX50
Just finished my BBC swap, and TBI swap. was planning on putting a turbo on it as well. Kinda curious about the turbo on just one side. No issues with getting enough air?
