Carbureted turbo setup?

Hey all, I've been thinking about turbocharging my car. I guess my biggest question is about carburetors. Is it possible to have a suck through setup on a turbocharged engine? If so, how and where would you mount it?

Re: Carbureted turbo setup?

check out a turbo trans am or formula, pontiac 301 from the late 2nd gen

Also, martin turbosystems, accel turbosonic...draw through. Not the greatest systems but they do work

Re: Carbureted turbo setup?

What are some of the disadvantages of the draw through vs. blow through?

Re: Carbureted turbo setup?

crappy mileage, no intercooler ,less power and none of the new school turbos have the correct seal on the compressor side to be used in a draw application

the only way to do it really would be one of the old martin or acell systems which do pop up on ebay from time to time

Re: Carbureted turbo setup?

Blow thru is alot more common and proven.
Advantages of blow thru is it makes alot of hp, no need for intercooler on under 10psi builds with aluminum heads. Alot of parts and info available.
Commin disadvantages, be very good at and or learn to very good at diagnosing and tuning carbs. Higher fuel consumption. Alot of owner input for the tuning.
A good friend of mine runs mid 9s in a street driven ls swap fox body. It gets the job done.
But he is collecting parts to switch to efi to turn it up more and make more efficient.

Re: Carbureted turbo setup?

What all would you have to do to convert a draw through carburetor to a blow through?
