I think my alky pump died. How can I make sure.

I have a shurflo pump. I just recently had some issues keeping my IAT in check. So I bumped up a nozzle size since the last one only droped the AFR's .5 tops when on 100% alky. Now I go out and try it out the new nozzle which has a check valve on it and I just cant build enough pressure to break the check valve.

I wasent sure if I was missing some sort of priming steps since the tubes were empty of alky at the time. Now It seems like no matter what I can do the only way I can get it to pump is to blow back on the pump while its running and franticaly attatch the nozzle with the check valve in it. Its a aem nozzle.

Is there any sort of priming issue im not doing right. Im not sure if the pump is cavitating if that is possible on these. I have no idea what they look like on the inside. Thanks for any help!

I have a video uploading of the pressures and the pump in action. Ill link it in a few minuets. My mind is telling me its shot. 30-50 psi is what that thing pushes max. The old small nozzle mist fine but the larger one looks horrible. Im just going to have to get another pump.

Heres the video. Is there anything im missing. The only other thing I can think of is that the Vts is low on the battery. I messed with the pump off and on for about 15 minutes. Thats something I need to make sure of still.

I just want to make sure im not over looking anything. And yes that is pure water.

I got the pump to prime itself by just turning on and off a few times to get the air bubbles out of there.

i'd run two small nozzles instead of one big one .the cooling effect is better with two spaced about 6"-1' apart .

Ive thought of this too. I may just run 2 since I now can. Smaller nozzles sure do atomiz. the water/alky better.

Re: I think my alky pump died. How can I make sure.

The pump should be mounted lower then the reservoir so that it is self priming.

Good possibility that the pump is shot. Those nozzles are designed to be run at a minimum of 100 psi. The pumps supplied with the Alky Control systems easily go to 200 psi.

Does the system have a test or prime button?

RBob.

Re: I think my alky pump died. How can I make sure.

No this pump does not have a test or prime button. I will add that this pump doesnt say it can handle 100% alky. I ran 100% methanol just because it was abondent and cheep. And Its not a DD car. It made tuning easier for me.

Now since new pumps are designed to run 1005 alky if needed, and also pump out a much higher psi, I feel I just may pick up a new one. The new pumps are recirculating insted of this on that is a switching on/off style. From what I see a recirc type pump also makes the mist a tad more stable.

I did go out and make sure the vts were ok. @12.8 vts it still only pumps out a mear 40psi at the max. So I do believe its just shot. Thanks for the help fellas.

Rbob ill also try and mount that pump lower and make sure the hose is ran so that it is self priming.
