Vader Ta Procharged F2 Car

Just a video of my F2 Procharged TA . 400 sbc with 23 degree heads @ 3500 pounds. I know turbos are the more sought after power adder these days , but don't sell the Prochargers short.

Re: Vader Ta Procharged F2 Car

Thanks guys, Have not had the car out much this year , actually only 5 passes but it still is running well and hope to get after it next season. Just been too busy to give this car the attention it needs. The combo is a 4.125 bore 3.750 stroke 6'' rod with 9.0:1 compression. The top half is a set of 245 AFR heads with a victor efi intake and a Steve Morris camshaft running Bs3 fuel injection. The Blower is an F-2 with a Procharger A/W intercooler. It has a 3 speed th400 and 3.50 rear gears running on MT 275 Pro radials.

Re: Vader Ta Procharged F2 Car

I am closing in on the 180 mph mark. Unfortunately I did not have the front half power in the car on this day as it was a diesel truck drag day as you can see in the staging lanes in this video. If I could put the front half power in with the back half power I think it will run pretty good . But it is a wait until next year type of deal.

Re: Vader Ta Procharged F2 Car

lol love the announcer! reminds me of the old school american sports cavalcade or something like that from the 80's.

what methods are you using to control front half power? are you dumping boost or just pulling timing?

Re: Vader Ta Procharged F2 Car

Just pulling timing and adjusting shift points so the boost does not get to high before the shift so it blows the tires off. Running 15 degrees out in first gear. The diesel trucks sure muck up a track. Between blowing oil on the ground and ripping it up with the big aggressive tires with 6000 pounds over them. Made it a real challenge. Yes the announcers are always good at this track.

Not sure on the wheel Hp as I have not had it on a chassis dyno but it makes 1700 fwhp. Power did not drop on the pulls and after tuning at the track I am confident I have picked up

Re: Vader Ta Procharged F2 Car

Yeah, I would like to make some more power but my goal has been to do it with the factory hood , but that really messes with the front cylinder tune as the elbow is so short that the air favors the back cylinders. Was thinking about getting a fiberglass hood and raising the elbow higher up with a bigger throttle body to see what it picks up. Plus I don't know what a factory hood weighs but it might save a little nose weight. Then after I see what I can gain I will put the factory hood back on. Kind of have a reserve if I ever need it for some reason.

Re: Vader Ta Procharged F2 Car

No, elbow is wide open. Just cant make the air turn in such a small amount of room. Tried many different things in the manifold but it all comes down to height restriction. I guess I could build a sheet metal intake . But I would have a hard time spending $5000 on one for $2500 heads LOL. Yes Steve is a very smart engine builder!

Re: Vader Ta Procharged F2 Car

I think a divider will help keep distribution abit better to the front. I been running one on my victor e setup and it seems to be even but it does have a 4" smooth rise to match with the cowl hood

Beautiful car and crazy fast, love how you still kept the factory look!

Do you have more pics of your setup, interested in how you fit the a/w intercooler.

Sorry, looked through my pictures and could not really find any of the intercooler. Basically you have to cut and section the frame to about a 1'' thickness and have the intercooler wrap around the frame. Then make a bracket and a couple of tabs to hold it secure

How about a rundown of engine parts, what does it actually take to get a engine to live at 1700hp?

You'd be surprised. Just takes good money to but those components and a good machine shop to get everything fit in right with clearances and such. Rest of it just about anyone who can build motors can finish. Cam heads installs etc basically same. Just component selection is on a higher level

Yep , there are no secrets but buy the best you can afford and pay attention to details. But I will give a rundown on the short block. It is a dart Little m block , Callies 4340 crank with a BBC crsank snout with 400 mains, 6" oliver billet rods with the upgraded rod bolts they offer, Steve Morris engines custom hard anodized boost pistons

Steve Morris custom ground cam, Mellings billet oil pump , Morel lifters, and a custom billet rail oil pan that I had custom made but for the life of me cant remember who made it . Piston pins are also very important, I run Trend .220 wall tool steel pins. Rings are Helfire rings.

I think the F2 is banned in those classes around us unless I run a restrictor . Possibly going to swap to a turbo setup as that gives me more opportunity to run those classes . I like the F2 but it limits me if I want to run any of the 275 classes

That option is on the table also although it would not be an R as that blower in my car would be too slow . Either route I go it is doubtful I would be very competitive under those rules as my car weighs too much.

Yeah not sure i'd want to see you change to a turbo just to make a class. Thats a whole different setup really and will change how the car works now

Yep, If I were to run in the class it would be for the fun of it and I would just be a filler car. If I was serious about being competitive the car would be set up a lot different.

A new class is bound to pop up in another couple years anyway. Might fit into it. Lol

What elbow and throttle body is that? I'm impressed it fits under the hood.

Waterneck ?

Re: Vader Ta Procharged F2 Car

It is a Wilson elbow with an Accufab 90 mm TB . Waterneck is a -16 line into the front of the intake. It is not an ideal setup for making power but is definitely cheaper than a custom intake manifold.

So a mustang throttle body. Are you using an external IAC or fast idle valve?
