the only car I tested both ways was the 85 "JYD" w/355 13.60's motor and 11.90 ](movie) on a 150 nos carburated powershot with the TPI (#5151) jets for my carb intake converted to fuel injection. remember we race at 6000 ft thats why I get more than a second for the 150 shot.

These are my old times from 1999:

Motor: 13.3 at 108
Motor and 150hp NOS: 12.2 at 122

The nitrous run was from about 40mph on up (2nd + 3rd gears).

The car is tuned perfectly and probably runs in the mid 12's at 112mph or so on the motor. Add the 13mph from the NOS on top of that and you get 125mph or so in the mid-low 11's.

Don't forget the faster the car is, the less it helps. This also applies to modified motors (NOS is less effective than for a stock motor). It may add 100hp on top, but may add 175lbs o'torque down low, this is why the ET is helped so much compared to something like a vortech or paxton. It also makes your tq converter stall higher because of the increased bottom end.

Yeah I thought the same thing. It came out of #4 hole.

None of the other pistons look bad. Could be just a bad slug went bad after so many miles. I only threw about 15 bottles using a 100 shot at it.

Not to worry a new stroker is on it's way.

Looks like alot of you guys are getting an additional 12-14 mph on 150 shots and 8-10 mph's on 100 shots in the 1//4 mile. Can't wait to get mine on the track as soon as it opens I'll be running the NOS #5151 150 shot on a GTA that went 13.9 @98MPH. Think high 12's are possible??

High 12's will be easy with a 150 shot if you can get the car to hookup.

from experience I believe the piston pictured possibly suffered a common failure due to the second ring (oil control) locking (momentarily) in the bore from insufficient ring end gap and the ends butting during expansion. I have also seen similar results from power adder cars (turbs, blows, and nos) that made the mistake of using total seal rings. they dont butt and lock like regular gapped rings instead excessive pressure builds up between the 1st/2nd rings resulting in spectacular failures like perfectly cleaved off piston tops and some similar to that on pictured above. when building a motor tat could be exposed to nitrous remember to err on the side of excess when gapping the rings. I have had similar run ins here is just one that was run with no fuel on a NX 300 hp shot for about to the 1000 foot mark and shut down the car exibited no ill effects for the remaining 2 or 3 thousand miles we drove it on the street until the end of season tear down. I love these tough little TRW anvils.

I don't have any new times yet. I'm still waiting for the heads.

That piston looks similar to mine. I understand the ring expansion and my new motor is gapped accordingly.

BTW Mine was a stock slug and had 115k miles on it before I flogged it. The pistons haven't been out since they were installed by the factory.

Tom: That one is a TRW?

yes, it is trw, they are my favorite little subjects of abuse, my little mistreated anvils. right on for you on the ring thing. at the risk of opening a can of worms we run backwards mix of stock style ductile iron and moly rings on our big nitrous motor.

AAAAARRRGGGHHHHH!!!! 13.7 @97 150 shot, spun all of first and second gear on heated BF drag radials @14 psi. Crazy torque baby!Engine pinging at end of 3rd gear due to high heat range platinum plugs. less than 600 psi in bottle(no bottle warmer at the time).

my best time was 13.9 all motor at 97 mph with 1.90 60 ft.. it's a world of difference with the bottle warmer and 900 psi with the corect heat range plugs.

So you should be in the low to mid 12's at least.

Have you improved on that .2 sec gain?

I had to let off the throttle because car was pinging towards the end of the track due to stock heat range platinum plugs.

sorry I corrected it to read stock style instead of stockmstyle. actually it is on a an EFI, plated, insured daily driver that placed 11th in qualifiying at the PSCA race at phoenix with a 9.66 (the same race the car magazines slow under weight mustang got booted out of) Its a stang but its what we got till I get my act together on one of my two damn project 3rd gens. In need of; EFI manifold to fit 1206's, TB, and BIG heads.

It's been a while but i finally got the motor together (ZZ4 Block, AFR 190's) and ran N/A with a 13.39 @104 and 11.97 @113 on a 150 shot with the bottle warmer and 1000 psi of bottle pressure. These runs were on Mickey Thompson ET Streets.

What jets will you use for the 200 shot? Would you know what a 175 shot would be?? I'm using the NOS Kit #5151.

Upon blowing up my good block trying to make a pass
with the charger and a 100 shot - on that pass I ran 10.32
@ 133 with a 2.1 60 ft (lots of spin) should have gone high 9's.
After that pass I replaced that block with a stocker out of my old truck, put on my heads, cam and 100 shot only (no charger)
10.89@ 125
