Silly gauge shows no boost!

Hey guys,

I connected my AutoMeter vacume/boost gauge to the back of the plenum (screwed the fittin in where the fp regulator vacume goes) and hooked it up.

The car shows only vaccume (5-20lbs of it!) at any RPM from 500-5000..

Noo boost at all.. Weird.. I put my hand on the port, and it does just have vaccume. What gives?

Hey,

I'm running the A-Trim. SHould be around 5-6psi..

I know the blower works, if you take the discharge peice off and rev it to three grand you can't hold your hand infront of it..

Otherwise, I dunno why its showing vaccume.. I'd imagine it at least goto 0, so I think I got something wrong..

Is there a load on the motor? If you are in park or neutural, just holding the motor at high rpm, you will not see any boost. Try running it down the road, while accelerating, you should see boost. If not, you don't have a supercharger/turbo on the car. You will not see any boost on a n/a motor

Hey,

No kidding?? Yeah I was running it on the lift in the shop.. Havn't tried driving it at all.. Odd, thats prolly what it is.. Wish I had a dyno..

I gotta fix the oil feed fittings vortech made me use. They're leaking for some reason.. Stupid Idea, t'ing off from the sending switch on the side of the motor.. argh..

You definately need a load on the motor, just the nature of the beast. take it out for a quick drive, you'll get the boost going

Hey,

Thanks for the replies btw..

I didn't realize that.. The parking lot at my shop isn't really big enough to test it in, the car doesn't have plates, and the track is closed so I can't trailer it.. Guess i"m gonna have to wait..

Glad I know now tho.. Thanks again..

I would just bring it up on the converter, without breaking the tires loose, that may get you a few pounds of boost. Or if you are running a trans break, hold the trans brake button in and stand on it you will see a lot of boost that way. A 5 speed car will be harder though. you can pull the e-brake as hard as you can,(if you have line lock, use it too) and put a load on the motor while bringing up the rpm. you may not be able to get much boost this way, but you should see something.

Just read your specs, the 5 speed may be tough to do in the parking lot of your shop. A dyno would be nice. Just run it down the road, you should have plenty of power & handling to shake "The Man"
