Hitting Rev limiter On the Hose- How bad?

I have traction problems (sig) and I have hit the rev limiter on the msd more than I'd like to of. What are some of the effects?? Is it REALLY bad to hit the limiter, or just minor?

it is not usually too bad. I used the 6K chip in my 85 on the spray and hit it every powershift (as the clutch grabbed) it can (but it didn't to me) backfire. the soft touch rev control built into the 6AL I think helped me to avoid it. with non 3rd gen cars that have a factory rev limiter, the kind that cuts fuel, really backfire badly.
