How about a fabrication board?

I have noticed that there are quite a few people on here that fabricate their own parts. My buddy just got a MIG welder, and we are trying to find parts to make. There isnt a whole lot of information out there on parts fabrication, and I think a forum would be a great way to share ideas, plans, measurements, etc.

I think thats a good idea, but I dunno how much traffic it would get.

i think it's a good idea too, might expand it a bit to "fabricating and machining"

Hey I like that idea, too. Sharing information on creating and repairing your own parts, etc. Techniques, theories, basic engineering, hardware, tools, materials; the list goes on..
It might even get more people interested in the fine art of fabrication to compliment the modern-day art of mail-order bolt on.

I know that it would get plenty of traffic from me. I'd be looking for ideas that might spark my interest.

Nobody else? I know it would be slow at first, but I bet it would catch on. I know we have people here with creativity and ingenuity written all over them. How else would we have home-built AFPRs, subframe connectors, etc.?

I would appreciate a fabrication board as well. HOWEVER, in order to avoid 100000 "What diameter tubing should I use" questions a faq sticky on that board would be extremely necessary

Topics like targa top, if I can find a subpar t'top camaro without a motor then its a go for me. I pretty sure a fab board would get quite a bit of traffic with good posts. Like Trailblaze, he did a targa conversion i'm pretty sure his help on that topic would be greatly used.

Been here for years, and thirdgen just gets better and better.

I like the idea too. If people could also ask specific questions about machining like Ede said, I know that would be helpful.

Time to submut the forum to the search engines again...

I thinks its a good idea. The plus that hasn't been mentioned is that everyone will do something different and from this you can pick the best idea/approach to eliminate "going down the wrong path". Also, if asked, a person might be willing to make the item for you at a reasonable price. If you can not do it yourself.
I'm all for it........

i love that idea to. i need some more ideas on how to make sub frame connectors for example when i dont have a stock exhaust routing or something along that lines. i think this is one topic that shoulp be added. i understand that there are more and more topics but i think this one should be the final one, for a while.

I think this is a great idea.

there are alot of people on this board, that have many great ideas. and many people on this board with lots of experiance that can help those with ideas be able to realise their idea.

the only problem i see with a board is:

"i want one"
"how much"
"will you make me that"
and so on.

but it would be a great resource to have.

Well, that's the same problem that several boards have. The DIY PROM board comes to mind right off the bat. It's easily dealt with though.

This can all be covered on the Tech/General Engine Board though.

well, power adders, tbi , tpi , ect CAN all be COVERED by the tech/general board.

but if there was a specific board it would make it much easier to find the info, and for people who are serious about fabrication to be able to comminicat ideas, in an orginized manner.

exactly. we really need a board like this.

even if it's theories on how a part could be fabricated, etc.

I don't know, TPI, TBI, and Power Adders all have their own boards for things like this already with people that know what they're doing on each as every board does. Then you have the Tech/General Engine which can cover any kind of technical fabricaton. It's put together and all the best Tech dudes are already on that board. I don't think a Fabrication Board wouldn't get that much use or is needed, and thats what boards that are put up on TGO are based on, use and necessity of them.
