Getting Annoyed!

OK, I'm not sure if many other people are having this problem, but occassionally when I post a reply and hit "Send Reply," the server times out. When I hit the Back button, all my text is gone that I wrote. While it's usually not a problem if it was something small, it annoys me to no end when I write something detailed to help someone out, just to have it disappear.

This happens when clicking links sometimes, as well. It will just sit and then time out. I have to go Back and hit the link again for it to work.

I'm not trying to be a nag here. I help out with people's issues a LOT, and it's not fair to those people when I get so annoyed that I don't feel like writing 4-5 paragraphs over again. If it's an issue with my browser, let me know; it's possible I missed something in IE. But it looks like a server issue to me.

PS- This even happened while trying to post this topic!! You better believe I copy-paste this time.

CaysE, I was just coming in here to report the same thing. I lost 2 long messages before I caught on that "Hey, this isn't some weird fluke, it keeps happening." Now I'm highlighting and copying all my replies (including this one) before pressing that "submit" button.

It's happened so far, to me, for every reply. There's a half-second longer delay then usual (I'm on a fiber optic internet hookup). It happens right after I click "Submit Reply", and the form posts to https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/newreply.php.

So far its been happening to me as well. Hopefully this will go through, but I doubt it. I can't send PMs either.

Well, I posted a few more messages, and it hasn't happened again. Either someone was restarting the web server, someone fixed the problem, or it was a fluke that'll never happen again.

[edit] Duh, I'm forgetting my own sys admin questions. If it helps any, I run IE 6.0 SP1 with all the latest patches. O/s is Win2k Pro, sp3.

Fun fact- if you press the "windows" key and Pause/Break at the same time, you get the System Properties box. It's faster then start/settings/control panel/system.

I've always right-clicked My Computer and selected properties, but your way is more interesting!

See, I'm a keyboard-fan, I'm faster that way. It takes me longer to get to the My Computer icon, and use the "right mouse click" key then it does to go thru start/settings/control panel/system/properties with keys.

I've been having this problem as of late as well. It seems to happen more when I have ALOT of text and/or a picture attached. Needless to say....I copy/paste every message I send.

Also, for those not in the know.... Ctrl + C is copy and Ctrl + V is paste

I suppose it was a big fluke the other day, since it happened to a lot of people, but I notice that it happens to me on occassion, not just yesterday.

And another fun keyboard fact... hold Shift while inserting a CD to prevent it from autoplaying.
