Letter to the mods, execs..

Ok..I understand mods have to do something at this board. But being so **** about threads, swears, etc...My question is why? Are you guys being hosted by a sepperate server then some members server or something? I know another VB board that allows swearing in moderation, lots of off topic threads, Hell even seperate sections for them. (voting booth, off topic, etc..) Although they ask for very small fees (basically whatever u can)once every 4-12 months if possible. Also donators get little banners saying so.

Theres also some nice features possible with the way you make these VB sites..Like 10 most recent threads visable on the front page, quick reply, etc etc...Im wondering if theres any room for improvement on this site...And if not is something restricting you back from using it? I can give you the link to the site Im refering to if you want so you can check some of the stuff out.

Holla back...

Nate

they have been cracking down more on non tech stuff and flame wars, etc...

For sure, we are starting to weed through the troublesome members and they are getting themselfs banned, the site continues to improve.

write the admins or mods with any ideas you may have, or problems you wish resolved. being a moderator is a pretty thankless job. lot of rules get enforced that the enforcer may not like and surely didn't make. the rules are enforced for the good of all members and the good of the site.

i don't remember who i was told to talk to about getting off probation...but feel free to put me back to normal any time...apologies have been made for the post that got me here and my lesson has been learned...and i'd love to get rid of the signature picture i have (a '93 bmw)...cept i can't edit my CP (sorry for the off topic rant)

I agree on that point. I know what you're talking about as I work with a vBulletin system myself. In addition to being able to integrate parts of the site with the forum, there's also some nice hacks for the forums itself.

I've given a few hints and offered a few times in the past, however, I don't feel they've been received. That's just my opinion. I think Dirk is the only one who has the knowledge and access of mysql, php, and vBulletin to make the stuff work that you're talking about, at this present time.

It does sorta look bad to visit the frontpage and see that the last news update was from April 2, 2003, despite the fact the forums are doing well. As Dirk probably believes, there's more to the site than just the forums, however, the rest of the site needs a little bit of help.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I also think it has gotten better. This site will always remain non-tech, work friendly, and as professional as possible. Sure there are lots of things you can do to the features of VBB, but Dirk would rather wait until we upgrade to VBB3 to start playing with stuff. What we have now works fine and smoothly. Also, don't go by the front page, there have been numerous updates since then but Dirk keeps forgetting to let every1 know by writing it for everyone to see. It should change soon.

I'm just saying that a new person finds the front page and one of the first things you see is April of 2003 as the last new item, that can give a bad or false impression. For anyone else who comes to the site, they too, could get the same impression if they don't know any better. I sorta get the "abandoned" feeling outside of the forums. Regardless of what we know, it still is "bad" for a website to have such a look, especially when you want people to think there's more to the site than just this forum.

And yes, much of the things you do now to the forum itself, might be lost when Dirk upgrades to vB3, resulting in twice the work. However, vB3 had been delayed for quite some time.

Regardless, don't take this wrong, but the site outside of the forums still could use some work and attention, and that doesn't really need to wait for vB3

Yup, I gotta get him to change it. But there have been updates.

No joke.

I agree...The front page could deff. use some kinda of extra stuff. it seems kinda plain. I have been at this site for only a few months but visit it very often. Its a very good forum site but as the previoys person said it seems like its just a forum site. Im sure the members would sacrifice some lost data for some upgraded features, and awesome additions.

I understand that this site is about 3rd gens and should be mainly on topic. But some offtopic posts should be accepted. I mean I seen a thread for ex. on a future vette. Threads like this I feel should stay open. Its not hurting anyone, and it is not completly off topic.

I understand now why we dont allow swears. Confusion cleared up on that... Thanks for your reply on that issue.

I appreciate the input from you guys on this topic. I hope to see great things from TGO in the future.

If you would like to discuss future vehicles I really suggest the 5th Gen and Future Vehicle board at CamaroZ28.com. It is a great and up to date source for that kind of information, the best I've seen for this subject. They have an off-topic board also. ThirdGen.Org will continue to stay focused on being the best site and source for Third Gens.

If we let one go, someone else will think its okay to post off topic stuff too. Then if we lock theirs, they will complain that we let the other guy post off topic. Thats why there are no exceptions.
