Search feature problem
Search feature problem
Why is it that almost everytime I use an asterisk as part of the search I get a "The page cannot be displayed" message?
If I don't use asterisks it searches fine, and does it quick.
Is there something that I can change on my browser?
Thanks,
Scott

I think it also is in part due to the server's load. Using the asterisk, you're making the search more broad, rather than a simple search. With a large board such as this, with much activity from other users, and with a very large search table, it can cause load spikes which might result in that. I'm not involved with TGO's server, but do know that it has load spikes at times, and I, too, noticed the same results when doing a search based on few certain words, which is why I think it's due to a search that is taking the server too long to finish.
I don't think there is much you can do, other than wait until vB releases a vB version that makes use of the improved mysql search functions, which should take care of issues like this. I could be wrong as I'm not an expert here, just have some experience, perhaps Dirk or Iroc have some more info or answers.

I won't even bother answering these questions anymore. There's JT.
