mod/user relations when locking posts..

when you guys (mods) lock a post and tell the poster to do a search, think you could make a lil extra effort to be more polite about it?

im just looking at this from a 3rd party perspective... im not the one making threads that get locked, and im not the one locking them... but i do glance in there..

it seems you guys are a lil ruff on the guys.. a lil extra effort would go a long way in helping everyone get along.. some people are going to feel hurt enough that it got locked without being answered, no reason to be gruff about it.

even if its the same "im sorry buy this topic has been covered..ect.. the search function should yeld extensive results, ect..." message everytime, it would be alot nicer... and more professional too...

this is the time of year when alot of people start buying new (to them) cars and we usually get alot of noobies in the spring.. lets not **** them off and shrink the potential future of the 3rdgen...

speaking only for myself i try to always PM the person that caused the thread to be locked, deleted, or edited. i figure it's a private matter between me and the offender and don't want to cause any embarassment or "Arm chair moderating". however sometimes when i'm surffing from work or just plain get stupid i forget or get busy and fail to PM, but that seldom happens. on the other hand you wouldn't believe how many time a moderator sees the same infractions or PMing for the same reasons. lot of people never reply, some say ok no problem and others bitch and moan. i've also found some people will take something one way while someone else wil ltake it another. my PMs all pretty much look alike.

I try to explain why I lock posts, unless it is blatantly obvious. But I agree, I have seen some mods who could be a little more friendly when locking posts that have been covered before.

I happen to agree here, some of the Mods do to tend to be rude, But I can also understand that. Some of the members can do with out being rude as well. I know I get ticked off sometimes & bring it to the boards.

We all just need tolearn to mellow out.

here was a response from one of your mods and while it wasn't directed at me, it was still pretty rude: Jesus christ.

This is quite possibly the dumbest thread I've ever read in the car audio forum, and considering the massive amount of stupidity I see on a daily basis, that's a huge statement.

Some of you guys should learn how to knit and stay the hell away from electricity.

not everyone that comes on here is an expert and they come on your board trying to learn more about these cars, and this is what they get? i'm not trying to flame anybody or stir up trouble but was that really necessary?i've had people from here i've never talked to email me asking for help and i help them anyway i can possibly. sometimes folks need to remember that we were all once newbies and not the most knowledgable, it's only from learning and helping each other that any of us are gonna get anywhere . i hope you don't ban me from this site for speaking up but i felt like this was so uncalled for. a little patience and understanding realy goes a long way. i myself would be happy to be a mod and i wouldn't be so quick to jump on people. once again if i have offended anyone , i do apologize , i just felt i needed to speak up . i don't post here that much for this very reason i just described ,oh ,by the way the thread was locked shortly after that.

Oh, shut up. How can you understand? You think anyone cares if you're ticked off? No wonder thay think you're "Krazzy"! Who's rude?!

Seriously, I also try to PM or email the poster if a thread/post is inappropriate or gets edited/locked/deleted. There are those occasions when there is no need for a note, since the violation(s) is blatantly obvious (isn't that redundant?). I believe that most moderators try to similarly notify posters when actions like that are taken, but there are no hard and fast rules to moderating, since there are an infinite number of possible issues we'll have to face. Everyone has different opinions, and anyone can make mistakes.

I have a "canned" reply that I can cut and paste for the easy ones, and will take a little more time with the less obvious ones. I also try to make sure the original poster gets his/her questions answered before locking a post whenever possible. Personally, I HATE editing other peoples' posts, since it's too much like "Big Brother" flavored censorship for my liking. I'd rather just delete a post instead. I think I've editied others' posts only three times that I can recall, and only when the balance of the post had some useful content.

Also, if anyone feels they have been treated badly by a moderator (myself included), I would recommend they use a link to the Administrators, Private Messaging to the Admins or other moderators, and/or email. You might not get "your way" every time, but at least someone will read and analyze your complaint. If it's valid, there will be some action.

So, is there anything specific someone would like to share?
