I wonder if we've grown too big for our britches. I have noticed it also. It seems like mid afternoon it stops working.

Connectivity issues for who???

Not me. The entire WWW worked just fine during that time. Only this site was crapped out.

Servers? Didn't think TGO had a separate server for mysql. If they did, the server load isn't too impressive. Not sure how accurate holding up fine is based on the server's performance, measured with the load averages it often sees and performance issues that often affect users here. No secret that Dirk wants to upgrade more than just software, and that the server has been having load issues. By the way, not meaning to flame or anything, so don't take me wrong.

Dirk, or another admin, is logged into the server, so atleast some type of work is being done, so i'm sure Dirk is aware of the problem and trying to resolve it. i'm not with TGO, so i could be wrong, but i do think that it wasn't a server load issue in this case, despite the above.

Maybe Iroc (one of the Admins) can correct me or shed some light on the issue.

I don't know where the site is hosted but powweb.com gives 1000 megs of space and a 1000meg of bandwith a day, for 7.77 a month. Even les if you pay by the year. like 97 a year.

That really wouldn't fit TGO's needs. The disk space alone wouldn't hold the vBulletin database itself, i'm sure. And if it is not a dedicated server, you can forget it. This is a fairly large database with a large number of active members.

Dirk hosts the site on TGO's own server. It is also connected to what i think would be an adequate backbone. i'm not with TGO and i'm not an expert, but i do know a bit more beyond that, but don't feel its appropriate to say.

From the announcement above by Dirk, you can see it was a network issue.

What I meant was the server didn't crash, it was a server connectivity issue. Considering how much load this site does bare with, I'd safely say it has been holding up fine. A few seconds delay during peak times isn't the biggest deal in the world.

i understand your comments. But at the same time, things have been changed on this forum to help ease the server load to help keep it acceptable, and some at the inconvenience of users. That, along with the fact that it does have some spike issues that affect the forums at times, is why i couldn't really completely agree. Just a slight difference of opinion with the wording i guess.

But that is just my view and i could be wrong and in the minority. And for the most part, the site has been up most of the time for me. With a large database with a large amount of active users, i'm not complaining or have any problems

i know that the Admins are doing good to try to keep things working. i'm not trying to start any type of flame or argument with you or anyone here. Just thought i'd explain myself.

Thanks.

looks to be on a university network. Could explain things if it shares bandwith with downloaders.
